Hi everyone, I'm terribly sorry for making you wait for the latest update to the YKS Surnames List, but I have been deeply involved going through piles of dusty 230-year-old parish registers in the North of Portugal Archives for Braga. Despite the years of neglect, much due to political and military upheavals and events in the country (the Peninsular War, among others), they are in a remarkable condition and not all that difficult to read. I imagine that clear, copperplate calligraphy was a requisite for the position of Parish Priest! One of the most rewarding features of these birth records, is the remarkably complete information they contain. A typical entry for a child will have the name of the child, date of birth, names of parents, names of both maternal and paternal grandparents; date of christening (usually within 2-3 days of the birth), names of all godparents, duly identified as son or daughter of X (father) and X (mother) of X (place of residence). When a grandparent or other parent is deceased, this is also duly noted. Considering the time since the last update, it is not all that surprising that I had to delete all the submissions for the following researchers whose emails were reported to me as bouncing, and continue to bounce. Please, don't forget to let me know when you change your email. There is no form for this and I am happy to take care of it.
