Timothy Millington's family did have sons named Thomas and James, but I don't think it's the same pair mentioned in your message. My Timothy's Thomas was bapt in 1806, a bit old to be getting married in 1847, the saw-making MILLINGTONs in Sheffield at the time appear to be a different line (most of mine seemed to be Hatters at one time or another), and if the article is at all correct, the chair-stealing Thomas was born ca 1823. However, thanks for the message. Are the Black Swan at Snighill and the Waterloo Turf Tavern still in existence? If so, I'd like to stop by them the next time I'm across the pond - purely out of a Family History desire to "put flesh on the bones", mind! Dave in northern Illinois

    3. Hi When I lived in Sheffield it was comically known as the 'Mucky Duck' and was still there the last time I was in Sheffield. A distant relative of mine (or at least a name sake) Terry Steeples was the owner and was also in entertainments around Sheffield. I think you'd be disappointed Dave! The Waterloo Tavern was on Watson's Walk, which was in the same area. That part of the city centre was more or less destroyed in the blitz in the second world war. Personally, I've never seen the Waterloo, but I have been in the (new) Black Swan. cheers Richard
