    3. Hello Elaine, Frank and List, I did send the censuses from 1861 to 1901 to Frank. my sisier took this info. from Ancestry...she confirmed that the 1851 census had no record of this family. We had a similar situation with one of our Irish relatives, a Great Grandmother who always described herself on the various censuses as Katherine McKay born Sheffield... It turned out that her name was transposed as McHague...Irish 'McOigdh... They originated on the Island of Ust in the Hebrides and were made to leave during the clearances settling in Ireland, then emmigrating to England... We proved with a birth cert that this was indeed our Katherine. More important to Frank's research (could have some bearing on this matter, we found evidence of other brothers and sisters of our Katherine McKay , born variously in Ireland, Weedon Barracks and Barnsley... Sheffield was a later destination food for thought. I will send this other email to the List as there is other pertinent information on this family as well...it might be well to look for other children on the 1851 census in the surrounding areas of Sheffield, just a thought! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elaine Pickard" <trayford@rogers.com> To: "Frank Turner" <frank@cyberscotia.com>; <eng-sheffield@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 18, 2010 4:54 PM Subject: Re: [SHEFF] 1851 census GREEN lookup > Hi Frank, > > May I suggest you have a look at the Parish Registers that have been > transcribed on the "Sheffield Indexers" http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/ > > There is a daughter baptised at St Lukes Hollis Croft in 1859 and a son in > 1856. > > We only have the 1841 census indexed. > > Kindest Regards. > > Elaine in Ottawa.Sheffield Indexers Site Admin. > www.SheffieldIndexers.com > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Frank Turner" <frank@cyberscotia.com> > To: <eng-sheffield@rootsweb.com> > Sent: February 18, 2010 1:46 PM > Subject: [SHEFF] 1851 census GREEN lookup > > > > Back on the trail of my GREEN family. 3. Hello Josephine and Elaine I have to conclude that my Kate was born in Ireland after all since there seems to be no evidence of her family here in the 1851 census. It would appear that from 1871 onwards she is erroneously listed as being Sheffield born for some reason. I'll take a deep breath and plunge back into the Irish records such as they are. I have found them back in the 1820s in Killeigh, Kings County. Maybe when the Euro exchange rate improves I can find myself over there.. Till then it's the Internet. Many thanks for your look ups.
