    1. [SHEFF] Fw: Research 1600-1650 > eg BROOMHEAD migration from BRADFIELD
    2. Mike Broomhead
    3. Donna, Pauline, all, I'm very interested in history either side of the period of Civil Wars. Not quite Sheffield but BRADFIELD in particular where BROOMHEADs were named in almost a Fifth of Parish Register events up to 1630s. When PRs recommenced in 1660s, they were hardly any Broomheads. I believe the most likely explanation is forced migration - if Bradfield was Parliamentarian as I understand Sheffield was then Catholics (or Royalists, obviously) would have been very unwelcome. There are several Broomhead Marriages & Burials around Hope Valley after 1660 for whom no local Baptism record can be found - I such Marriage/Burials and confirmed Baptism PRs do not include the individual. Such people were most likely Baptised elsewhere - tho unfortunately there are also a few Parishes whose Registers are incomplete or lost from 1600-1630, so local Baptism may have occured. I'm probably directly descended from HENRY BROOMHEAD b 19 Mar 1605/6 Bradfield, married ALICE COATES in 1633 Hope. Interested to hear from people with similar understanding or links. best wishes, Mike Broomhead  (Manchester). --- On Tue, 4/1/11, Pauline Bell <pbell7@btinternet.com> wrote: From: Pauline Bell <pbell7@btinternet.com> Subject: [SHEFF] Research 1600-1650 To: eng-sheffield@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, 4 January, 2011, 12:07 Hello Donna I have done some family history research in locality of Sheffield relating to this period.
