    3. I'm interested in the LAING family (father David, born Fife, moved first to Notts about 1820, and then to Brightside Sheffield). First two children, born Scotland, and then the rest of the children all born in Notts, starting with David born Dunham in 1821. I've been largely able to trace the other children, but David eludes me. David Senior and his second wife, Elizabeth, are in the 1841 census at Attercliffe Works, Brightside Lane, Brightside. David Junior is with the family in 1841, aged 20, with other siblings. Then he disappears. He may be the David Laing, born Sheffield, aged 27, in military service, but working as a shoemaker, in Winchester in the 1851 census, but if he is, he gives the wrong age & place of birth at the census, then buys his military discharge & disappears. If not, he disappears in 1841, as far as I can tell. Does anyone have any information about him, or any ideas where else I can look? David Senior is my 3X grandfather. 3. No information about this particular person but I had a relative who seemed to disappear from the face of the earth in the 1860s. i had birth, marriage, 2 children then nothing! Turned out the family went to Australia on the Great Britain, I only gound out by a fluck. Perhaps something similar happened to yours.
