    3. HAPPY NEW YEAR to one & all, hope you knock some walls down this year TANSHELF REUNION Did you or do you know anyone that lived Down Tansh' ? If so, then we are trying to arrange a Reunion for sometime in the New Year, maybe end of February. Tanshelf was a housing estate built circa 1890 & sadly demolished circa 1972 - 1974 now Pontefract Fire Station & few industrial building are there now. The terrace houses were mainly 3 up, 3 down with outside loo's, but were modernised to have inside bathrooms. We had shops, cafe, barber's, chippy, swimming baths, Co-Op, Bakery, cinema & Alexander Theatre (later Bingo hall) Doing my family research I have discovered so many of my ancestors lived down Tansh' quite a lot coming in for work from Stafford & many other places. Many were miners at Prince of Wales Colliery just down the road, or worked at the liquorice factory, Dunhill (now Haribo) My great, grandparents HARRY & ANNIE PONSONBY lived on Headlands opposite the baths. My grandad RICHARD (Dick) REYNOLDS was born on Colonels Walk, then living Princes Street when he married CLARA PONSONBY then lived Victoria Street, where mam was born. Grandad was the cinema projectionist for over 40 years. Dad worked at Johnson's Bakery & then at pit. Mam worked at Dunhills & the baths. She taught us all to swim & she entered Dunhills Gala's & won few times before she married. Still looking for lost photo she had taken with Mayoress who presented mam her prize. I lived with my parents & siblings at Newport Street 1956 - 1972 my name then Maureen CLIFF Jacqueline WOTTON lived Anderson Street with her parents 1957 - 1969 If you are interested in our reunion, or know someone that may, then please get in touch. I have started a group on facebook called, (yes, you guessed right) DOWN TANSH' so why not visit & catch up with who we have found so far, or still looking for, you may be able to help. There is a street map of Tanshelf & many photos, but still wanting many more photos to add. Thank you, hope to hear from lots of past neighbours, family & friends, Happy New Yaer from Maureen (now Walters) & Jacky (now Robinson)
