    1. [SHEFF] names of interest - McGEE, McCULLOCH, HICKSON, MOREWOOD
    2. Val
    3. Hi all, Jumping on the bandwagon and submitting my names of interest again. McGEE - too many to mention but in the main Tailors or Bricklayers by profession. Emma McGEE married the second time to William McCULLOCH. He was born Edinburgh I believe and he worked as a Scenic Artist in Sheffield. They had one daughter, Winifred Hypatria. Louisa McGEE married Owen HICKSON. He was a Blacksmith. Previous generations of his family came from Stockport in Cheshire. Which is where I was born too. My MOREWOOD family originally came from The Oaks, Bradfield. Which is now absorbed into Sheffield I understand. Hope this is of interest to someone. I have all my families on census but not all bmd's. I'd love to make contact with other descendants of any of the above. Thanks! Val Taylor.

    3. Hello listers! I thought I would follow suit and remind people of my surname interest in the Sheffield area. Henry Nathan MILLS b. 1856 in Halesworth Suffolk moved to Brightside Bierlow in time for the 1881 Census. Henry married twice and raise a whole string of children in the area. He was a greengrocer and confectioner by trade and was still alive on the 1911 census. I'd love to make contact with any of Henry's descendants! 1. [SHEFF] Another Sheffield Surname
    2. BINGHAM, the one and only Sheffield surname that I am working on. Many Binghams have researched this surname over the last many years and many residents of Sheffield have this surname. However, our needs are confined to the period 1500 thru 1650. Although we have much information, we are missing key linking documents from that era, such as probates. Any help would be most appreciated. Donna Bingham Munger dgbmunger@att.net

    1. [SHEFF] YKS SURNAMES LIST - Please read
    2. Magdalena Gorrell Guimaraens
    3. Hi everyone, Put it down to grouchiness because I am battling a stinking cold, to the crabiness often associated with senior citizens, or just to downright cussedness, but since I posted the last update, it appears that more and more people are incapable of reading the printed - or should I say emailed - word. Please don't take me wrong. I really appreciate the excitement that a possible twig to a tree creates, the hope that submitting a surname to my database might help find those twigs, the great help from what I now call my "email police" who inform me of bouncing emails that I would otherwise not discover, the eagerness to inform me of changes, but.... Please note the following, again: ALL CORRESPONDENCE to me regarding the YKS Surnames List is to be addressed to YKSSURNAMES@YAHOO.COM, not to the email from which YKS notices are posted. When asking me to update your email address, you MUST include BOTH your OLD AND your NEW addresses in the text of your message. There are more than 24,000 submitted surnames and I need the OLD address to be able to find your entry(ies) quickly. I do not have time to scroll the entire database to find individual entries and even if I did, there are duplicate names and surnames and I have no other way to identify the correct submitter. Also, if you do not include your new address in the body of the text, I have to make a handwritten note of the email from which you sent me the request and that also takes time - not much, I agree, but it all adds up. I'm always happy to help and answer procedural questions, but if you are having trouble submitting a surname, please read the instructions first. You'll find them at: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/. <http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/> You might want to bookmark that link for future reference. Now that was a short and sweet message. Please bear with my foibles and make life easier for me. Now I've got that off my chest, I'll stop shouting at you all and go make a nice hot lemon and honey drink to soothe my throat and go to bed . It's icy cold out there and a bitter north wind is blowing over Northern Portugal from the snow-covered hills of Spain. A warm drink, a good book, under the covers, warm dachshund on bed keeping my toes warm and cuddly cat on my lap.... heaven! Goodnight everyone, Magdalena List Administrator for the YKS Surnames List

    3. To Judy and everyone else wishing to submit a surname to the YKS Surnames List If you read my posting to the very end, you will see that the URL is given right at the bottom, with my List Administrator signature message. Clicking on that link takes you directly to the Home Page where submitters can use the form we provide for submitting surnames. Unfortunately, ISPs such as aol.com and many others refuse to accept forms and surnames have to be submitted Manually (instructions for that are also given). In Judy's case, she has to do it all manually and send her submissions via email directly to me at ykssurnames@yahoo.com . I'm afraid that is as quick as it gets! Cheers, Magdalena eng-sheffield-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Hi Magdalena, > > Thank you for all your works on the Surnames. > > I have a few more to add but would it be possible to add the URL to your > letter so that we can do it quickly. > > JUDY ELKINGTON > [N. 1. [SHEFF] YKS SURNAMES LIST 24 JAN 2010 UPDATE
    2. Magdalena Gorrell Guimaraens
    3. Hi everyone! AT LAST! The update to the YKS Surnames List you have all been so patiently waiting for since the end of November. I cannot apologize too much for the delay but trust that my computer problems are over for a long, long time. For a change, there were not very many email address changes. Please remember to tell me when you change your email address. If you don't and your email is reported as bouncing, I delete every single submission bearing the offending address and you have no choice but to resubmit each and every one. There is no form for this and I am happy to do it for you. Just remember to send me both your *old* and your *new* email addresses *in the body of the text*. There follows a list of those individuals whose emails have bounced and whose submissions have been deleted. The number of deletions appears in brackets: K Hulkorey (5) hayat@port-lotus59.freeserve.co.uk Roberta Sahr (1) drsahr@compufort.com Bruce Petfield (3) Bpetfield@aol.com Duane Rosendale (1) bear@nwonline.net Not surprisingly, given the time that has passed since the last update, there is a long list of new submissions to the list - 88 in all! Remember, to examine any of these or to search the database itself, just go to the URL given below with my signature and click on the letter-box that should contain the surname you are interested in. You will be taken to a sub-index page; use your *Find* tool and click on EMAIL next to the submitter's name to obtain his/her email address. The number that appears in brackets next to a name in the list of new surnames indicates the number of different individuals who have submitted this surname at this time, not the number of times that surname appears in the database as a whole. To submit surnames, please carefully read the instructions that are given on the Home Page, at the above URL. More and more ISPs are refusing the form that we provide. If this happens to you, please follow the instructions for Manual submissions. You can submit several surnames in a single email this way, an added advantage to both of us. To the more recent subscribers to the lists on which this update is posted, a gentle reminder that this is only a database of surnames, for Yorkshire only (no matter whether they appear elsewhere in the UK or worldwide). It is totally free of charge and is a service I am happy to provide. As a database, however, there is no provision for asking questions or providing information, so please don't try - the proper place for questions and answers is one of the Yorkshire gen lists. Happy Hunting! 2. Peter Lee
    3. Hi List,One of my ancesters Archibald Campbell SPEIRS was a scottish wood engraver who came to Sheffield in the 1880s and who set up on his own in partnership with Robert Ellis HIDES in the1890s. I have found some references to them in on-line versions of White's and Kelly's directories in the 1905 and 1911 but would really like to find out more about their business. If any kind soul is going to be in the Sheffield Archives or Local Studies library I would be very greatful for any information they could find in earlier editions of the directories. I would really like to get a better idea of when they started the business and where their premises were.regards,Peter _________________________________________________________________ Tell us your greatest, weirdest and funniest Hotmail stories http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/195013117/direct/01/

    3. Hi Elaine, I also have Siddalls from Dronfield. They are John & Mary SIDDALL married at Dronfield, 1771 Their son George (1771-1849) married Sarah GOODLAD (1784-1859) at Dronfield in 1801. Their son Henry (1811-1861) married Anne WOOLHOUSE in Sheffield in 1838. Do you see any possible connections with your Dronfield Siddalls? Tony O'Grady Melbourne.

They were certainly baptised in Dronfield but were I believe from Appleknowle & Whittington..... They married into my Hardwick line who were also from Dronfield. William Sydall 1763 Whittington Derby to Martha Marples married in Whittington 1783. Elizabeth Sydall of Whittington married John Hardwick of Dronfield in 1828 in Sheffield Cathedral. 3. hello Caroline, I'm not convinced it says 'FP'. The enumerator seems to use either a plain 'F' or the whole word 'Foreign'. This is more complicated. (for others: ref piece 1337/2, folio 30, page 9) When did Sara get married? I can't seem to find the entry on freeBMD. Have you found her after 1851 and if so what is her birthplace? These are a few Burials that might help you delete the non applicable Georges. BARNSLEY, George (, died on ?, at the age of 42). Resided at Carver St and buried on 20 Oct 1851 in ? ground, .
