Hi, Sheffield is a very big City with many burial grounds, however, I think the most likely two places may be City Road and the General Cemetery. City Road Cemetery can be reached by Email for a search of their records _Bereavement.Service@sheffield.gov.uk_ (mailto:Bereavement.Service@sheffield.gov.uk) You can also search the General Cemetery Records on _http://www.gencem.org/burialrecords/records.php_ (http://www.gencem.org/burialrecords/records.php) You could also try Sheffield Indexers at _http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/BurialIndex.html_ (http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/BurialIndex.html) Do you know which area of Sheffield Swann Street is in. I think it may be Crookes but it is difficult to offer help without knowing. JUDY ELKINGTON [N. Having discussed this with other members of the family these seem to be the most likely answers so I have splashed out on the certificates. Looking forward now to their arrival. She was my mother's eldest sister by about 10 years and was a bit 'flighty' as they used to say. She had an affair before she was married using another sister's name. Never mind every family has one. 1. [SHEFF] John Milton the poet 1608-1674
    2. Can anyone lead me or help me to sort out where to start. My wife says that her Aunt had a family history sheet leading back to the poet. She says it was destroyed in the blitz in a fire and no copy was made. She says she thinks it goes through Anne, John's daughter (born 1646). My wife's family history goes back that far but I can't find anything on Anne's kids or any name of Milton etc like who did she marry? where is here tree of descendants? If I had that what do I do then, try to link them up with a common name? We have been married for 42 years in July I would like to get something on this for her. Any help would be appreciated. Barry

    3. Hello Josephine and Elaine I have to conclude that my Kate was born in Ireland after all since there seems to be no evidence of her family here in the 1851 census. It would appear that from 1871 onwards she is erroneously listed as being Sheffield born for some reason. I'll take a deep breath and plunge back into the Irish records such as they are. I have found them back in the 1820s in Killeigh, Kings County. Maybe when the Euro exchange rate improves I can find myself over there.. Till then it's the Internet. Many thanks for your look ups. We had a similar situation with one of our Irish relatives, a Great Grandmother who always described herself on the various censuses as Katherine McKay born Sheffield... It turned out that her name was transposed as McHague...Irish 'McOigdh... They originated on the Island of Ust in the Hebrides and were made to leave during the clearances settling in Ireland, then emmigrating to England... We proved with a birth cert that this was indeed our Katherine. More important to Frank's research (could have some bearing on this matter, we found evidence of other brothers and sisters of our Katherine McKay , born variously in Ireland, Weedon Barracks and Barnsley... Sheffield was a later destination food for thought. 3. Hi Frank, May I suggest you have a look at the Parish Registers that have been transcribed on the "Sheffield Indexers" http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/ There is a daughter baptised at St Lukes Hollis Croft in 1859 and a son in 1856. We only have the 1841 census indexed. Kindest Regards. 3. Hi Elaine (and anyone else who might have the answers), Do you know of anywhere there might be apprentice records of other trades in Sheffield? I am particularly interested in Tailors and Bricklayers. From say the mid 1800's onward. Thanks for any help or direction. Val Researching mainly McGEE in Sheffield.
