Hello, Does any one have access to the 1841 Census? From the index I have Richard RAVEN aged 8, at Sheffield North, Russel Street (Piece no 1335/11, ED 26, Folio 32b) . Is there any more information available, such as birthplace, and whose household he was in? Thankyou Christine Perth WAust
Hi everyone, I am trying to find the burial index for a James APPLEYARD who died in Wortley in Q1 1889 and his wife Fanny APPLEYARD who died again in Wortley in Q1 1886. Does anyone know if Wortley still has old graves and if so the grave plots of the above would be great (if of course they were buried there) They may have gone in a public grave as they were down on the 1881 census as living in a poor house in Ecclesfield. Does anyone know anything about poor houses and where they were in Ecclesfield as I live quite close to the area. Lisa __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I wonder could some kind soul look up on the 1871 census to find a George Guest who I believe was a coachman. He was born in 1836/7 in Rotherham and his father was John Guest. I beleive he married a Sarah Peat in 1860 at the age of 23. Sarah being 18. They got married at Whicker? Stuart
Many thanks to all who answered my query about the 1841 census. Barbara Horne. Sheffield.

Hi marea, If my memory serves me right "Handsworth" was a Parish in its own right for many years and did not come under Sheffield until quite recently. There used to be someone on the list that did know a fair amount about Handsworth but I just can't think who it was. I believe their parish registers are stored in Handsworth and not in Sheffield but I could be wrong. I remember seeing a web site for them many years ago that was very informative......... http://www.handsworth.org.uk/history I think this was it and the Sheffield Archives do indeed have the Parish Records...... This is from the General Cemetery......... Lowe William 27 Aug 1860 1860 Workhouse * Pauper 10133 AA7 Pity is doesn't give his age...... 1861 census...... LOWE WILLIAM 14 HANDWORTH WOODHOUSE YKS 3500 138B Attercliffe Cum Darnall could the above be connected...... That's as far as I can go...... Hi Barbara and those new to the list........... The 1841 census that we are placing on line at here is the URL.............. . http://www.sheff-indexers.thewholeshebang.org/1841census but we had to leave some of the information off or it would not have been an index.... One that we left off was place of birth....... as you have found out, but on the 1841 census it asks the question were you born in the county or Not. so yes and no. They have in many cases stated if they were Irish or Scottish. The area around Campo Lane seems to have a large number of Irish families in 1841. For Barbara......... Both William and John were born in Yorkshire. Hope that helps. Elaine in Ottawa. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Hello Is anyone else researching this family? My GtGt Aunt Mary BOWMAN married Robert WELLS of Sheffield in 1899 and they lived at Darnall. They are on the 1901 Census at Darnall, and they were still living in Darnall in 1926. Robert and Mary WELLS had a son Clifford WELLS born 1903 Sheffield. They probably had more children but I haven't searched for them yet. Thanks Valerie Chesterfield _________________________________________________________________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free. Apart from the household there will be no place of birth shown. The only answer required is "were you born in County" to which the reply is "yes or no". Hope you get lucky. Judy
Hi Barbara. Both born in County....Yorkshire Regards Angela (LEE) Eckington U.K.
Vicki Theaker and Jeremy Crowshaw recently exchanged postings on the List reference the OATES family of Sheffield. I have an interest albeit slender but the following small item might fit somewhere into one or other of your lines:- Sarah OATES b.1797, daughter of a Cutler, married 27 August 1820 at Sheffield Parish Church to William PEACE b.1792, filesmith etc. family business - William & Samuel PEACE. Sarah & William had 7 children before William died at the age of 42 yrs. (20 October 1834). The business was continued by Sarah and the sons. In the 1841 census Sarah and the 7 children were living at No.34 Garden Street. My slender connection is on the PEACE side but I hope that this item might be of some interest to Vicki and/or Jeremy if they do not already have it. I wonder if anyone on the list could do me a look up please? Two of my Williamson ancestors are on the 1841 census index and wonder if you could tell me which county they were born in? They were William aged 66 at 1337/1 folio 8b and John aged 55 at 1337/1 folio 14a. Thanks. Barbara Horne. Sheffield.
Peter, Thanks for the message re OATES. The only Sarah that I know about at present in my OATES family was baptised on the 19th December 1667 at St. Nicholas' Church, High Bradfield but as my OATES family were mainly Cutlers/Farmers this could certainly be a possibility. I'll print your message and save a copy in my OATES folder, you just never know! Best Wishes Jeremy Crawshaw (Temp. Hi friends......... Last time I beg I promise...... LOL. We have just about completed the inputting of the data into the database but much has to be checked for a second and third time... I still have the following pieces available....... 2 piece numbers for Kimberworth. 3 for Rotherham 2 for Bradfield 1 for Ecclesfield 2 for Sheffield Most of these piece number have less than 2000 entries.........and with the programme we have takes no time at all to do 200..... It doesn't mater where you live I send you the data........but as some of these files are rather large access to MSN Messenger would help. You can always take yourself off once you have received the material.......... So please if you can spare us an hour a day we would love you to join us.... .We want it all on the public site by May. Thanks very much...... Elaine in Ottawa....... now down to a shadow of herself having been chained to my chair since December LOL. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
