    3. Adrienne, There are a few Charles GREENWOOD's in Sheffield in 1901 but I can't find one married to a Theresa. Do you know how old he should be in 1901? I have also seen a Charles GREENWOOD actually in Keighley but he is only a youngster. I have found a 76 year old Theresa GREENWOOD (Widow) living at 1/2 Oborne Street in the Parish of Holy Trinity, Wicker if this could be her? Also I found a 50 year old Theresa GREENWOOD (Widow) living with her family in Keighley. If you can supply any further details (ages would be good) I can have another look. 3. Hi Ken, I wonder if you have considered other reasons why someone may have been born abroad other than the Military that is... I know from experience that travellers representing large Firms could be stationed abroad for some time and he may well have taken his wife with him. Representatives were sent all over the World to look for Trade. Other reasons may be that they had travelled to Italy for the health of one or more members of the family. The man may have married an Italian wife and gone to live there. One other reason that I can think of is that her father may have been connected in some way with the British Government ie working at an Embassy etc...I have an instance of one of the family marrying in an Embassy in Paris for just that reason. Lastly the Birth may have been registered with the British Embassy in Italy or even in England if the child's father was British. I am sure there are other reasons which I haven't thought of. Hope this helps...Did you find the family on other censuses which may give more details of the wife's birth location (not just Italy)? regards, Josephine, Ontario, Canada. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kenneth.R. 2. carol cooper
    3. Hi Marea, The burial ground where the Lowe burials were recorded is the Quaker burial ground at Woodhouse. Once called Handsworth Woodhouse. The Quaker Meeting House is now two private houses, and the only bit of burial ground left, is walled off in their gardens. The stones in there are late ones and number about a hundred., all placed around the walls. There are no early ones. Altogether it is said that there have been about five hundred buried there, in what are now the gardens of the two houses. I can only think that I am glad ,that I do not grow my vegetables in those particular gardens. Carol, Sheffield.

    3. Here is an interesting piece of family and local historyfrom a local newspaper Sheffield Independent 1st June 1911 page1 A child's life was saved in Sheffield yesterday by artificial respiration. In her mothers absence from home Mary Maloney(2 and half),daughter of John and Sarah Maloney of 19 Court,1 House, Attercliffe Road, accidentally fell into a washtub half full of water. PC (267) Hawksworth perceived that a crowd was gatheringnear that court and when he arrived on that spot he found that artificial respiration was being tried by Geo Henry Froggatt, a musical instrument dealer and well known organiser of whist drives in Sheffield. The officer sent for a doctor but this mission proving fruitless a telephone message was sent to the Fire Brigade. An ambulance van was sent and when the firemen got there they found the child was coming round. Mr Froggatt had laboured for 40 minutes and is to be congratulated on the result. The girl was taken to the Royal Infirmary.. She remained there suffering from shock. She is expected to recover shortly. Glenn Piper researching PIPER-UK. Sheffield 1911 newspapers on cd/dvd. Free surname and general index. 3. Hi Liza, glad I could help, I was also surprised at the Number of Glass Makers in the Area... Do you know if this George Bolsover was related in any way to Thomas Boulsover... I have the Book, 'The Oldest Sheffield Plater', the story of Thomas Boulsover. It was written by John & Julia Hatfield. Boulsover doesn't seem to have been a common name. There was a street named for Thomas and the book suggests that the street was misspelt Bolsover instead of Boulsover... In what time period would George Bolsover have been a Glass Blower? regards, Josephine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisa Evans" <levans44@yahoo.co.uk> To: <ENG-SHEFFIELD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 3:08 AM Subject: [SHEFF] RE: Glass makers > Josephine, > > I am glad that you did ask the question as I have been > looking for George BOLSOVER who was a Glass Blower, he > lived in the attercliffe area and I didn't know there > were so many glass makers in the area. > > Thanks > > Lisa > > > >Should really go looking for things before I ask the > >List, and stop answering my own questions; still in > >this case, Margaret maybe wouldn't have got involved > >so I'm glad I asked about Glass Manufacturers... > >Hope the above List is helpful, for anyone else who > >might have wondered about Glass Factories....In my > >own defence...sometimes my back is very bad and I > >cannot sit too long and don't always have the get up > >and go to puruse my source material. > Regards, Josephine, Ontario. > > > > > __________________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > Yahoo! 3. Hi Could someone be kind enough to do a look-up for 1861 Census. My family came from Dukinfield, Cheshire after the 1851 Census. They stopped off at Barnsley where Samuel was born. They appeared in the Grimesthorpe area 1861, with the death of the mother 26.09.1861. As the census was 6-7th April 1861, It is possible the family are on the census. I was given the above death information by one of your research team. The family:- HENRY COOPER b: 31.01.1821 Manchester. m. 1840 A-U-L. RACHEL (TAYLOR) b.1821 Sheffield. d. 26.9.61 Grimesthorpe, Sheffield. Ref: MI's M78. St Thomas. (She was shown to be living at Baggaley. Brightside Bierlow ). The 1871 will be difficult, as they may be all split up ??? Regards Keith (Canada) (Fingers crossed)

    3. Hi All Being as its a mite quiet lately I thought a snippet might be in order. From the 1911 Sheffield Independent newspaper (index at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~engsheffield/g_piper/ind.htm ) --------------------------------------------- Woman Smoker Sheffield Landlord Fined for permitting drunkeness. For permitting drunkeness on his premises, The Ball Inn, Campo Lane, on May 20th a publican named Thomas Morgan was fined 40s (£2) and costs yesterday in Sheffield Police Court. Mr J Varley prosecuted and the defence was in the hands of Mr J E Wing. Mr Varley stated that on the evening of 20th May the house was visited three times. On one occasion PCs 116 Burkinshaw accompanied by two constables found an unknown man drunk. The landlord adopted a somewhat defiant attitude and said "You cant keep a house like a church" and other such things. Later the same evening the policemen returned. They found in the dram shop a woman, sitting on the floor with her back to a partition which separated the dram shop from the bar, in a drunken condition and talking incoherently. They went out and on returning again, found the landlord trying to get the woman out. She was taken away and charged with being drunk. It was with reference to this woman that the case was brought. Mr Varley stated that the woman was unable to walk out of the house without assistance. For the defence, Mr J E Scorah who was conducting the case in Mr Wings absence contended that the woman was not drunk, but was sitting on her heels smoking. The landlord had held a licence for eleven years and only one complaint had been lodged against him. ------------------------------------------------- So, nearly a 100 years later and nothings changed then ................................. <lol> Regards Gordon List Admin (in Sheffield) Sheffield Genealogy Website : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~engsheffield -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
