Janet, I have had a look at the 1891 Census on Ancestry for you and cannot find a William BOOTH living with a George BOOTH. The only William BOOTH's that I came across in Sheffield are as follows, (the first two were living within Ecclesall Bierlow), William BOOTH, Aged: 4 - Father: John BOOTH William BOOTH, Aged: 3 - Father Charles BOOTH William BOOTH, Aged: 4 - Father: Samuel BOOTH William BOOTH, Aged: 4 - Father: William BOOTH William BOOTH, Aged: 4 - Father: Robert BOOTH William BOOTH, Aged: 1 - described as "Nurse Child" living with Edward & Sarah PINDER and family William BOOTH, Aged: 7 - living with widowed mother, Katherine BOOTH If any one of these looks promising I can send you the image off-list. Dear Listers, We've done it! With the latest submissions, we have gone beyond the 22,000 names submitted mark. That's quite a database of interests in Yorkshire genealogy and obviously reflects the growing interest in Yorkshire family history. For the many newcomers, here is a brief outline of just what the YKS Surname List is. It is a totally free, voluntary database of surnames in Yorkshire. Submitters post their interests and other researchers can contact them directly. What you do, is go to the YKS Home Page at the URL given below with my signature. You will see an Index page with groups of letters. Click on the group of letters that might contain the surname you are interested in. You will then be taken to a sub-index page. Use your Find tool to see who else is interested in that surname. To contact a submitter, click on EMAIL and you will get a pop-up that you can use. We do not post the exact email address on the index so as to protect submitters from email harvesters. (The exact email does appear on the pop-up.) Each submitter is responsible for informing me of changes in his/her email address. There is no form for this, so you have to send me your OLD email address, together with your NEW one. Don't bother with the list of names, I don't need that information. This is important, because when I am informed of a bouncing email, I erase all submissions with that email. Here is a list of the latest deletions: Rosie Fearnley (20) rosie@fearnley2000.freeserve.co.uk Linda Reid (4) lreid@interlog.com Heather Ward (2) heather@heatherseggs.co.uk Victoria Bentley (4) vikibentley@rslnet.net Diane Dunn Lentz (2) pa_history_buff@cox.net Don Cawthra (1) doncawthra@breathemail.net Julie Whitelaw (3) bjs.whitelaw@bigpond.com Gwyneth Justice (1) gwyneth@rivelin.freeserve.co.uk If you want to submit one or more surnames, please click on the link that you will find on the main Index Page. Read the instructions carefully, please. I'd rather you used the form, to ensure that I don't make any mistakes in entering your information. However, some servers will not accept the form and you will have to send me the information manually. Please read those instructions carefully. The YKS Surnames List is regularly updated by me, when I post the list of new submissions. The number in parenthesis indicates that a given surname has been submitted by 2 or more different people. Hello Clive, Certainly will contact you if I ever come across an Alice BARBER in my family. Having said that I only know of one BARBER at the moment, it's one of those surnames that's in it's infancy at the moment and needs some research doing, and it's a long way back in time as well, see below, 7th G.Grandparents William & Elizabeth CRAWSHAW (nee BARBER) Marriage at: St. Nicholas' Church, High Bradfield on 1st September 1743 Best Wishes Jeremy Crawshaw Crookes SHEFFIELD ---------------------------------------------------- Outgoing Mail protected by: NORTON Internet Security 2004 Updated: 2nd May 2005 ---------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Clive Stacey" <stacey_adsl@wanadoo.nl> To: <ENG-SHEFFIELD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 02, 2005 8:32 PM Subject: [SHEFF] barbers of bradfield > Hi Jeremy. > As I see you are also researching the BARBERs of bradfield.I am also researching the STACEYs of nether hallam and ecclesall bierlow. > My grand father Frank STACEY was married to Alice BARBER.the date of marriage is not known at this moment. If your during your research you come across any STACEYs please let me know. > lots of hunting pleasure. > > Clive Stacey.

Have received a query from a contact in Canada concerning a Samuel Greatorex born in Jan 1858. If anybody has access to the 1871 UK census for Sheffield could they look and see if he is there along with his family with any indications of where his father was born. Being born in January he should show an age of 13 if the enumarator got it right of course. He is present on the 1881 census in Sheffield but in his own household with no parent present. TIA Mike Greatorex of Harrogate, England http://www.freewebs.com/greatorexfamily/ Looking for all members of the Greatorex family in the following areas. Sheffield and North Notts, England/NY State/Alabama/Florida and Philadelphia.

Dear List Could someone help me locate my CARDWELLs, on the 1841 and/or 1851 census. They should be in Masboro(ugh), near Rotherham. William b. abt 1839. I believe the father is Samuel. Thank You Karen Walker
I wondered if SKP could possibly check (1851 census if poss) to see if Harriet, might be on the 1851 census with her mother, whom I think is Sarah. I have her on the 1861 census with Joseph Hill 1810 Dby, Sarah A Hill 1818 Sheffield., but Harriet is stated as being their unmarried daug-in-law. Harriet has a daughter Elizabeth A Morton, who I have found on the 1871 census with Harriet now married to Henry Nadin. I know this to be my Harriet and their daughter. I am trying to determine the correct name for Harriet's mother, and the possible father also. I do not think it was Joseph Hill, as he married twice once to Sarah Mee then Sarah Ann Morton. (whom I can only guess was a widow) as she might have married Henry Morton. I would love it is anyone could through some light on this for me, and this would be very much appreciated. Kindest regards Gwen Nadin

Bob, There is a Hannah CROOKES baptised at Bradfield on 9th July 1809, she is listed as the daughter of Samuel CROOKES. This information is on the net via the Hugh Wallis pages. I will have a look for her on the Bradfield 1841 & 1851 Census CDs and get back to you.
