Hello listers, After an unwanted 12-month gap, I have returned to some family history research and this list, spurred on by a recent visit from a Canadian 3rd cousin, who found me through the SFHS surname interests - hi Linda if you are on the list! Thought I'd start by reposting my Sheffield/Rotherham surname interests: BEATSON, COATES, CURLEY, HEATON, JENKINSON, MARSHALL, MORRISON, PEARSON, PRITCHARD, RODGER, SELLARS Plus a quick query - where might I find a coroners report for an inquest held in 1906? Thanks Angela Brighouse, West Yorkshire
Attention all newcomers! I have noticed that there are many newcomers who do not know exactly how the Yorkshire Surnames List works. This week I received several requests for lookups or information on families or individuals. Just to clarify how this database works: The YKS Surnames List is a free, voluntary database that is created by people interested in Yorkshire genealogy. There is no provision for posting any type of query. The YKS Surname List is simply a database of surnames that have been submitted by researchers, in the hopes that other people interested in the same surnames might contact them and thus help in developing their family trees. Unless by some lucky chance you are researching one of my surnames, all of the almost 22,000 names submitted belong to other people. Queries and requests for lookups should be directed to one of the several genealogy lists for Yorkshire, where you can post all the details that might trigger a fellow researcher's interest. To see who else may have posted a surname on the YKS List, please go directly to the YKS Surname List home page, at the URL given below with my signature. You will arrive at the Index Page. Click on the group of letters that should contain the surname that you are interested in. You will be taken to a sub-index page. Use your Find tool to look for your surname. If you find an entry which interests you, click on EMAIL, next to the submitter's name, and you will get a pop-up that you can use to contact that person directly. The reason we do not give a submitter's email on the index is to protect submitters from email harvesters. If anyone wishes to submit his/her surname(s) to the YKS Surnames List database, they should read all the instructions for submissions that are given on the YKS List Home Page. Do note that some ISPs do not accept the form we provide; in that case, the surname details will have to be sent to me for manual submission. Please read those instructions very carefully also. I wish everyone the best of luck with their genealogical research. If anyone has any questions as to how the YKS Surnames List works, please feel free to email me. Magdalena -- For all communications, please use: YKSsurnames@yahoo.com THE SURNAMES INDEX CAN BE FOUND AT THE YKS SURNAMES LIST HOME PAGE. PLEASE GO TO: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/yks.htm

Would you be willing to go to the Archives and Index material from there? 3. Index material from the LDS? Please let me know if you are willing. Kindest regards. Jay. Can't help you with the Ann RUDD, but these two HATTERSLEYs are listed. Burials 16/Jan 1847 Ann daughter of Isaac aged 3 of Leicester Street. 27/July 1849 Ann aged 3 of Totley (Beauchief Abbey) This would be the E.Bierlow reg. I don't think they are old enough Jay to be your GGG grandmother, at least you can rule them out. Regards Angela (LEE) Eckington U.K.
I wonder if some very kind soul with the newest NBI could please look for the following? RUDD Ann death registered Sep qtr 1850 Sheffield HATTERSLEY Ann death registered Sep qtr 1849 Ecclesall B'rlow HATTERSLEY Ann death registered Apr qtr 1847 Sheffield (She was born in 1820 in Sheffield - daughter of Samuel MARSDEN.) I'm trying to determine which one (if any) was my GGG Grandmother. Her husband (Thomas Hattersley RUDD) changed his surname from Hattersley to Rudd about 1842 and had remarried in Feb 1851. It is most likely, I think, that the Ann RUDD above is mine, but I'm trying to be sure. Unfortunately there are several more possible deaths in other likely RDs, I'm working outwards! Many thanks Jay

> > Gooday All, > I have come up against a brick wall as we all do in the pursuit of our family's past and thought that out there some one will know something or be able to put me on the right track. My Grandfather Charles (Charlie ) James JEFFERY was born in Sheffield in 1886 married Frances Cawthorne and they had 2 sons, one of which was my dad. Charlie had 2 sisters Florence and Edith born a year before and a year after himself and I have traced them to the present day. He also had a brother George JEFFERY born in 1880 in Sheffield and to this point I cannot find out much about him. I have been assured he had 13 children and I have photos of a number of them, and in 1925 he was living at 40 Third Ave, Munition Huts Tinsley. One of the photos shows a couple of his children outside the huts. Also from the voters lists of 1925 it gives other occupants of the above address as Charles Henry Jeffrey and Jane Lillian Jeffrey. Charles Henry would probably be one of his sons but Jane Lillian could be his wife, daughter or daughter in law. > If anyone has info or can suggest which way I should turn it would be gratefully received. > > Your from Sunny Queensland OZ Alan Jeffery
