    3. hello Charles, That page of the GRO index lists 8 names, including William HEATH and Hannah DODDS, but they did not marry eachother. Having checked the Sheffield Marriage index published by the FHS I can sort them into the following couples: HEATH William WIGFULL Ann SOLITT John DODDS Hannah WOOD John POWER Mary Ann WOODHEAD Joseph THOMPSON Elizabeth Ann and Hannah can be alternative forms of the same name, so your question may still be relevant, but relating to the surname WIGFULL rather than DODDS. 2. Dear Listers, I have been trying to find a marriage between William HEATH and Hannah CUNDELL. When one of their children died in the U.S., the death certificate showed that her mother's maiden name was Hannah CUNDELL, born in Sheffield. I have been unable to find a marriage between these two. Their first child was born about 1844. The family emigrated to the U.S. about 1855. However, on freebmd, I found a marriage in 3rd Quarter 1840 between William HEATH and Hannah DODDS in Sheffield (Vol 22, page 421). Perhaps Hannah CUNDELL was a widow, previously married to DODDS. Does someone have suggestions on how I could determine if Hannah DODDS was previously Hannah CUNDELL? Thanks, Charles Olney Arizona, USA ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [SHEFF] Married in Doncaster
    2. hilary jackson
    3. My 2 x Great Grandfather was Christopher BRAITHWAITE. This was the name given on the wedding certificate of my Great Grandparents - Robert BRAITHWAITE married Harriet MICKLETHWAITE in Penistone 12 Feb 1849 where "Cristopher" (sic) Braithwaite was described as Father of Robert and that his occupation was "Farmer". All census entries for Robert BRAITHWAITE state born Hartwith, but to date I have not managed to trace a baptisms for Robert and therefore I don't know his Mother's name. He was born c1824. Robert and Harriet spent most of their married life in Hunshelf and Stocksbridge, Yorkshire before moving to Dronfield, DBY (1891 Census) and then moving up to Workington when the steelworks moved from Dronfield to Workington. Robert and Harriet both died in Workington. I have found an indenture for a property in Rotherham where the purchaser was Christopher BRAITHWAITE "late of Awkley in the County of Nottingham" dated 18 March 1820. This property was a Beerhouse in Westgate Rotherham which Christopher kept until 1825. I believe Awkley was Aukley, near Finningley. I have also found a marriage on the IGI - Christopher BRAITHWAITE married Elizabeth HANCOATS 14 Dec 1818 Doncaster, Yorkshire. Does anyone have this marriage within their own research, please? There was also a Christopher BRAITHWAITE in the 1841 Census living in Sheffield (South) his profession was shown on the Census as that of "Shopkeeper" and born in Yorkshire - he was age 80 and living in the same premises was Mary Braithwaite age 50 Not born in Yorkshire. I sent for a death certificate for a Christopher Braithwaite who died 16 June 1844, address New George Street and he was 83 years, and his occupation 'farmer'. He was buried at St Mary's Church, Bramall Lane. Does anyone have any of these people in their family - this is my brickwall and hopefully this could be my Great Great Grandfather. I have more information on Robert and Harriet BRAITHWAITE and their children to pass on if anyone is interested. 1. [SHEFF] Mini YORKSGEN at York in July
    2. Jane Lachs
    3. Morning folks, Only 6 more weeks until we meet up in York again for our mini YORKSGEN meeting 8th - 22nd July. The house is booked. Only a small group this year: fully booked the first week (10 people) and 4 rooms still available for the week starting Sunday the 15th July. Open to all subscribers who'd like a week or part week in York for research / holiday. Basically: it's a chance to use cheap accommodation provided by the University of York to meet up with old friends, meet new friends (all interested in genealogy !!) and get some research done. The Borthwick is 10 mins walk away. For those of you who are new to the list: you can read more about it here: http://www.yorksgen.com/ Jane LACHS and Janice WOOD PS. This is the "MINI" YORKSGEN. Which means we won't be organizing coach trips, lunches and dinners. If that's want you want then start saving up for next year :-) After saying that: we do often join up in groups of 2 or more to visit the archives elsewhere in Yorkshire.

Hi I am not sure what you mean when you say when was she born when you have the date. I presume she was born and belonged to the Dyson family of Loxley just down the hill from Stannington who owned a brickworks there.. Is she church of England because there is also a chapel there which I think is Quaker. Where did her mother come from before she was married. You didn't give the mother or fathers name so I couldn't check the census. Perhaps she died before 1861. Did she have any brothers or sisters, if so you could check where they were registered. Would you be better sending for a birth certificate at Sheffield Registrars Office where I think she may have been registered. If not there they may know where you could apply to. I think it may be one of those births that slipped the GRO because she is not there. The Register Office, The Town Hall, Pinstone Street, Sheffield, S1 2HH. Tel: 0114 203 9423 or 0114 203 9438.
