I wanted to thank everyone on the list who assisted me in locating my Great Grandfather's grave recently and of course over the last few years with other questions. My husband and I arrived home from our trip to England Thursday night and must report we had a wonderful time! In Sheffield, We did manage to visit my Great Grandfather-William George Liversidge's grave, as well 2 of his previous homes and the location where a third one would have been. We had a wonderful time in Sheffield. We stayed at the Premier Travel Inn, fairly close to the train station so we managed to walk everywhere! Sheffield was a very clean city...the only complaint I have, is that we were unable to locate any souvenirs at all!! I managed to get mementos from London, York, Harrogate and Dover...but not one from Sheffield! If anyone is interested I have some vacation photos including the grave site and the previous houses on my website. www.liversidge.ca follow the links for our trip to England. -- Carol- London, Ontario, Canada. ____________________________ www.liversidge.ca www.liversidge.blogspot.com ____________________________

Hello Gordon, I'm guessing that it is not a coincidence that Lisa Judson is chair of the Five Weirs Walk Trust. Hi I am trying to find the death of my paternal great great grandfather Samuel BRADFORD. I think he was born about 1806 and was married to Sarah OXLEY b.c1811 in 1823. He is shown on the 1841 census with his wife and children. His occupation was a scale cutter. However, he does not appear on any of the censuses after 1841 and Sarah is not listed as a widow just married. The family seemed to have lived at 43 Jericho through the 1841 to 1871 censuses. I cannot find Sarah on the 1881 census so I am presuming she died before sometime. I have looked for Samuel's death on my SFHS disks for St Philips and St Georges and also on the free BMDs without success. Could anyone assist or give advice where else I may look I would be most grateful June June Chatterton Sheffield United Kingdom www.junechatterton.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk Looking for members of the following familys BENSON, BRADFORD, CHATTERTON, FIELDSEND, HAWLEY, LEMONS and MITCHELL
Hi I am looking for information of the founder of the Fulwood Cottage Homes. I know that they came from a suggestion of the above man but I wondered if anyone can tell me anymore about him. He was a clothier by trade and lived in Sheffield and was born in 1847. He lived in Conduit Road, Crookesmoor. Can anyone help Sonya with this query ? Please send any response to [email protected] TIA Gordon ------------------------------------------------ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sonya Tyrrell" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2007 7:23 AM Subject: Scissors Hello I have a pair of scissors from Richards of Sheffield, England. They have Golden Age and Radiant Rustless with stainless steel inlays. Would you be able to put me in contact with any one that may know more about these sissors. Sonya ----------------------------------
Hi Sonia, I was brought up in Sheffield and so I know a little bit about the scissor industry. Richards was at one time called Rickards and was originally a German firm. With the coming of the second world war they changed their name to Richards. I am afraid the actual company is not now in business. They made not only scissors but Penknives and other cutting tools. You could try writing to the Sheffield Cutlers company which has a large exhibition of Scissors as well as knives and other Sheffield made tools. If you look at this page you will find an e-mail address at the bottom of the page. http://www.cutlers-hallamshire.org.uk/ Regards JUDY ELKINGTON [email protected] www.elkingtonfamily.com www.one-name.org/profiles/elkington.html
Hi All While strolling along the Five Weir Walk I came across a memorial stone for a Robert JUDSON (see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~engsheffield/judson_stone.htm ) by the side of the path near Washford Bridge. I must have passed it a hundred and more times but I've never noticed it before. It does look as if its been there a while. Purely out of curiosity, does anyone know ............ Who was Robert JUDSON 1950-1995 ? Why is a commemorative / memorial stone dedicated to him on the walk ? Bev, you are amazing! However did you do it? I thought had searched every variety of Shuttleworth, but Ihuttleworth was one I had not used. It is certainly them, and I am not surprised I could not find them. Ages etc are perfect, and although I cannot make out Henry's occupation, Selina's is correct. My second problem concerns her husband John SHUTTLEWORTH. I cannot find his birth. There is a John SHUTTLEWORTH born in Wakefield in 1771 which agrees with his death age 54 in 1835, but this John seems to have died in 1797. Is there a birth in Sheffield that might fit? It could certainly be a possibility Angela, but Hannah was born in Wakefield, of that I am sure, and although one of her sons became wealthy later in the century, I see no way in 1841, as the widow of a joiner, she could have afforded two servants.
