    2. Jane Howard
    3. Roger, I am very active in two cemetery web sites that you might want to check out - the first one is www.findagrave.com, where there are millions of interments posted. You can search for your target cemetery and see if anyone has posted the burial. If not, you can make a photo request for someone to fill. Also, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, at www.raogk.com, is another site where volunteers sign up to take cemetery photos, look up obituaries, etc. I have even contacted somone in the UK who photographed some graves in Plymouth. Lastly, in regard to Rootsweb, virtually every American county has a mailing list, so of you go to Rootsweb's main page you can go to all the sites for Maine and see what might help out. Additionally, since Maine is a very 'old' state, you could contact the county historical society to see if there is information you can glean as well. Jane M. Howard Pets are NOT disposable! 3. Roger et al, re your request. Have u considered looking at the Rootsweb.com web page for US interests. Have a look at the following links on that page. ROOTS-L Mailing List Look at joining a Maine based mailing list run of course in the same way that the Sheffield list is run. For my US enquiries I have made many friends and they have helped me tremendously with my US research. Like here mailing lists are also divided into Counties so look for the Kennebuck Co list and join it for help. USGenWeb Project then follow the link to Maine. In my experience you will be able to find someone on there who may be able to help. Good Luck. Mike Greatorex Harrogate, England. 3. Hello all I don't think there's a Brampton near Leeds but there is a Bramley. There isn't a Brampton near Chesterfield, it's Old Brampton, which is a couple of miles west of Chesterfield. 3. hello Pauline, A good place to look for information about Registration Districts is GenUKI. This page, http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/rotherham.html , lists Brampton under the Rotherham R.D. and the different volume numbers used over time are noted at the top. I can't find a mention of a Brampton near Leeds though?! It's not, as far as I can see, in the 'Where is it in Yorkshire?' index http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/Misc/Where/index.html, ...or in the England and Wales placenames index http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/places/index.htm . 3. Hello William and List, re your query on Grimethorpe...(please see below), here is my input... I too have ancestors who resided in Grimesthorpe, in the late 1700's. I have an account of where they lived, but it was a long time until I found a definition for this place. Here is an account of Grimesthorpe: "Grimesthorpe lies in a picturesque situation, at the foot of the Western end of Wincobank Hill, 2 miles N.E. of Sheffield, between Sheffield and Ecclesfield, about half an hour as the crow flies from Attercliffe Chapel... it is inhabited mostly by grinders and fork and shear makers. It has a Wesleyan Chapel, and two sunday schools, the former being a neat Gothic edifice, erected in 1813. Further to this I have another intriguing account re my family: John Webster senior and his wife Mary, lived at Grimesthorpe and kept the Old Public House that is in the hollow at that place... (I have never been able to ascertain which Public House this was... does anyone have any idea? would much appreciate any input). All the old property in the Yard where the thoroughfare leads was theirs. He was a Bleacher by trade and had a large bleach yard... the property at their decease was in dispute. John Webster the son was a Yeoman and 'Nailer'. His sons were involved in Saw Making. John Webster wrote a Will in 1760. He died before his father John and mother Mary... His Will was extensive and in part mentions real and personal Estates. He listed 4 tenements in the possession of Ann Sanderson Elizabeth Swallow Samuel Hall John Webster (himself). The Will was signed by John Webster, his wife was an Ann Webster nee` Royston. The Will was witnessed by Robert Holland a Saw Maker, later Landlord of the Blue Boar... the same Inn was later run by Thomas Smith the constable. This Inn was later known as the Blue Pig, it was located in Spring Street. If anyone can throw any light on the above, re relationships of any of those mentioned, I would be greatful. I haven't been able to ascertain where these Websters originated from or who they were connected to...other than my family that is... hope the description of Grimesthorpe helps.
