For anyone who may be interested, I picked this link up from another list. Go towards the bottom of the page to 'Yorkshire, west riding', then click on 'Rotherham' http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/ Today, from Alma Road, you can only see the middle section of the first picture - I hadn't realised how much of it was still standing. My gt-gt-grandfather lived a stone's throw from Alma Road, on Oil Mill Fold / Alma Place back in 1876 - but I haven't managed to find a birth or death for him yet (in 2 years of searching).
