I am wondering if anyone has ever heard of Howarth Hall in Rotherham? My gg-grandmother, Mary Hall Boomer, lived there and died there in 1839. Also, I was wondering if anyone had heard of Spa House (sometimes called Spar House) in Treeton. My gg-grandparents, John Gilbert Didsbury and Harriott Boomer, lived there, as did several of Harriott's sisters and two brothers. Donna
Hi Donna Depending on where you are in the world or UK, maybe you ought to try to get an old map of Treeton or Rotherham to see if Howarth Hall or Spa House are marked on it. I've done a search on the internet but Spa(r) House doesn't come up - the only place similar to Hawarth Hall is Howarth House on Brinsworth Lane, Brinsworth which is now a care home. I'm assuming you've spoken to relatives about your ancestors - can they help you anymore on locating these two places? My relatives are long gone but in our family tree Spa House was mentioned in Treeton and also I believe their coach driver wrote a book about them as a researcher years ago sent me a copy of some of the pages taken from the book. I was told that the Boomer daughters (3) who weren't married were allowed to stay there until they died. I do have the death certificate for Mary Hall Boomer, who died on Christmas day in 1839 at Haworth Hall, her family home, in Rotherham. I was just wondering if these places were still around. Thank you so much for your reply! Donna
