Researching Dean Trickett Spooner Smith Guest All from Wentworth Dear Gail, Julia Fairhurst, was researching a TRICKETT family recently on the Sheffield Discussion Group. Although I have no interest in this family for my own genealogical research, I do have a copy of the following book which may be of interest, if you think he is related to your TRICKETT family. I have in my possession a copy of a 156 page book entitled "Oliver Trickett, Doyen of Australia's Cave Surveyors, 1847 - 1934" by Gregory J. Middleton. Sydney Speleological Society Occasional Paper No. 10, published by the Sydney Speleological Society (P.O. Box 198, Broadway, N.S.W., Australia, 2007) in association with the Jenolan Caves Historical & Preservation Society, 1991. He was born at Bridlington, Yorkshire on 29th May 1847 to Reverend Edward TRICKETT (b. ?, d. ?) & Henrietta née ? (b. Edinburgh 1820, d. Australia 1907). The family emigrated to Australia, but the year is unknown. Oliver was a champion rower from 1868 to 1876. He worked for the Department of Mines Victoria from 1864-1876 where he qualified as a surveyor in 1870. From 1876-1919 he was with the Department of Mines New South Wales. He was noted as a very energetic & dedicated draughtsman & surveyor of caves with a warm personality & sense of humour. He accurately surveyed, photographed, & built models of many N.S.W. caves, and promoted conservation & preservation of the delicate formations found in these caves. He died at his home "Thule" in the northern Sydney suburb of Crows Nest on 31st March 1934. He siblings were Ellen Agnes TRICKETT (1849-1933?) & Arthur TRICKETT (? - ?) Oliver married Elizabeth Anne COLLINS (1868-1933) Please note again, this family is not related to me. Kind regards, Malcolm Carr (Christchurch, New Zealand)
