Hello Friends, I thought I would post my interests, in hopes of discovering some of the descendants who remained in England, of Thomas ALLPORT,artist. Thomas ALLPORT was bap. 14 Oct 1804 in Lichfield Stafford. along with his twin brother John. >From 1822-1828 Thomas was in Liverpool working with William ROSCOE, on the book Monandrian Plants, which Thomas was the artist for, painting the botanicals. In July 1834, Thomas is living in Sheffield, and in 1845 in the Sheffield Trade Directory, he is listed as a Miniature Painter/ Drawing Master and lives on Clifton Terrace Rotherham , Yorkshire. He remained in Rotherham until his death at age 73 (Sept quarter 1877) John ALLPORT died the Mar quarter 1879 in Rotherham. Thomas ALLPORT married Sarah THICKETT 8 Jan 1849 at the Parish Church Rotherham, and 3 children were born to them. *James born Dec quarter 1849 married Catherine Margaret ? , and they had children James and Kate. James Sr. was a draughtsman/designer for Yates, Haywood & Co. This is the family in the1891 census James Allport head aged 41 designer/draughtsman Rotherham Catherine Margaret Allport wife aged 41 born Scotland Kate Allport daughter 8 scholar born Kimberworth James Allport son aged 4 born Kimberworth living at 27 Ward St Rotherham (Kimberworth) *Sarah Ellen ALLPORT born Mar quarter 1851 married James LEWIS and emigrated to the US. *Mary Ann ALLPORT born 17 Aug 1852 in Kimberworth, was raised in boarding school (mother Sarah THICKETT died 30 Sept 1852). I can't find Mary Ann until she appears in the 1881 census living with James at 27 Ward St. Kimberworth, and listed as a school-mistress. Mary Ann married Roland Thomas JONES, had a daughter, Sarah, 15 Feb 1901 in Liverpool and Mary Ann died in Liverpool 27 Jan 1926. Sarah JONES, my grand-mother, emigrated to Canada in 1929. I would *dearly love* some help in discovering more information about James ALLPORT and his wife Catherine. In an article of 1930 of the Sheffield Daily Telegraph, James was said to have died, 'comparatively recently'. Thank you in advance for any help! Cheers~ Teena from the very wet, West Coast of BC Canada
