G'day, On 20th April 1767, George Rice of the Parish of Silkstone married Grace Lawton, by virtue of Banns published in the Parish of High Hoyland, where the bride resided. Nothing is known of George before 1767. Grace was the daughter of William Lawton, of Skelmanthorp, and had been baptised on 15th April 1745. She had at least one sister, Elizabeth, baptised on "July ye 24th", 1737. George and Grace had six children: Thomas, baptised 12th February 1768 at Silkstone, and buried at Rotherham on 7th February 1769. The family now resided at Kimberworth, very near Rotherham. Joseph, baptised 14th May 1769. Sarah, baptised 19th May 1771, buried 2nd December 1778. Ann, baptised 4th June 1775. (see IGI: may be the same woman who married Robert OLIVER at Sheffield in 1808) Elizabeth, born 28th December 1777, baptised 18th Jan 1778, buried 1st August 1779.
