Hi to the Listers, This is my first posting to the list, My name is Stan Bower, Hence my interest in Bower Genealogy. I originated from Maltby and later Hellaby, I have good memories of my life in the area, Back in 1942 as a 15 year old I worked at Steel Peech & Tozers, then as a taxi driver at Helliwells in Norfolk St I think it was, after that at E & EJ Shaw's, a transport haulage firm later to become British Road Services. Eventually my wife and I lived in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and then back in Australia again. I have fond childhood memories of playing in Hellaby Hall, where my Grandfather at the age of 16 along with his younger brother worked as servants back in 1888. Sorry if I have bored anyone with my rambling Regards to the Listers Stan in Oz
Hi Stan You may be interested to know that Hellaby Hall, after many years in derelict condition, is now a luxury hotel. All the buildings on Norfolk Street have gone and been replaced with Council offices and the vast melting shop at Steel, Peech and Tozer is now the Magna science adventure park/museum. Hi Listers, Posting our interests, any connections *George Greaves G eorge married Mary Wing a thirty one year old spinster 8th October 1799 in Ecclesfield. Mary the daughter of Thomas and Sarah wing was baptised 22nd Oct 1768 at Tankersley, most probably St Peters Church. The Children of George Greaves I found four children baptised to George and Mary . They were living at Tankersley Lane when they were baptising four of their children at St Peters church Tankersley. The baptism register reads: Greaves Richard Greaves Joseph twin children of George and Mary of Tankersley Lane Feb 28 1802. Greaves Mary daughter of George and Mary of Tankersley Lane Oct 7 1804. Greaves William son of George and Mary of Tankersley Feb 22 1807. George moved his family from Tankersley at some stage after the baptism of their fourth child William; most probably work being the reason. We next encounter George's family living at South Hole, Kimberworth, Rotherham where they appear on the 1841 census.
