    3. Hello to all on the list I am fairly new to genealogy and it seems as though my dreams will come true and I'll be making the big trip from Oz to the U.K. I am hoping for some good advice in researching my family. My ancestor William MAYBURY (MAYBERRY) was born in Rawmarsh 4.8.1799.He was transported for 7 years arriving on 4.3.1819 after being court martialled in Guines (France) - nothing too bad.....allegedly trying to lighten the load of a french customs collector. I would love to trace him back further if possible and visit some o fthe places he might have been. William was a member of the 3rd Kings Own Dragoon Guards. Will I be able to get the info I need in London or would it better to travel to Sheffield. I have quite a few families to research and would love any advice/practical tips you may have to make my long journey even more worthwhile. 3. Wiliam's army records will be at the National Archives (formerly Public Record Office) at Kew. You may be able to trace his ancestors in the Rawmarsh parish registers. The original registers are at Sheffield Archives, 52 Shoreham Street, Sheffield S1 4SP (sheffield.archives@dial.pipex.com). Microfiche copies and typescript transcripts are held by Rotherham Archives & Local Studies Service, Central Library, Walker Place Rotherham S65 1JH (archives@rotherham.gov.uk).
