    1. [ROTH] (ROTH) Carr, Kay, Casson, Wainwright & Shaw
    2. Malcolm A Carr
    3. I am resubmitting my interests for the new year. My name is Malcolm Arnold Carr - I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand on 17 December 1945. At present I am living in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, but will be returning to live in New Zealand early in the New Year. I have been trying to trace my Great Grandfather, William CARR (son of James Carr), who worked as an engine fitter for the Yorkshire Engine Company. He married Emma KAY (born Grenoside or Shire Green? to George Kay & Ann CASSON) on 11th April 1868 at St Thomas's Church, Kimberworth, when he was 32. They had 3 children, Sarah Ellen, James (my Grandfather, born 3rd January 1871 at Jenkin Road, Brightside, educated at Brightside Boarding School) & William (lived for only 3 months). He died on the 17th May 1874 at Grimesthorpe, Sheffield, from pneumonia aged 38 years. The family was living at High St, Brightside Bierlow in the 1871 Census. His widow Emma remarried on February 1877 to George Samuel WAINWRIGHT - this family was living at 25 Adsett St, Brightside Bierlow in the 1881 Census (children: [Wainwright] Alfred 17, Joshua 15, George S. 14 & Emma J. 11; [Carr] Sarah E. 11 & James 10). Unfortunately, I have been unable to trace William Carr's birth - I have tried St. Catherine's House Index & the IGI, but couldn't find anything which made any sense. Not knowing his mothers name hasn't helped either. His son, another James Carr, emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1899, returning to England briefly in 1904 to see a specialist & to marry Annie Sarah SHAW (born October 31 1874 at Windhill, Shipley). Does anyone have any information to help with the above research?, or can suggest where I could look next? If anyone is interested in what I have found out so far, I can forward a copy. Regards, Malcolm Carr.

    1. [ROTH] Psalters Lane Cemetery, Masbrough - newspaper snippet
    2. tlh
    3. Hi all In 'The Star' tonight (Rotherham) there's an article about the National Health & Safety Executive's safety checks on gravestones in Rotherham Cemeteries - hundreds of which have been declared unsafe. It's reported that there are a 'significant' number of dangerous structures in Rotherham Cemeteries and registers are being checked to identify relatives who's responsibility it is to make them safe. The checks started in Psalters Lane Cemetery, Masbrough - and all gravestones which pose a danger are being marked with a yellow sticker and a warning. Many of the dangerous headstones have been laid flat. ------------------- If you have a family grave there - or anywhere else for that matter - and it's found to be unsafe, no doubt you'll be hearing from the HSE. Hope this is of use to someone Tracy Listowner

    1. [ROTH] ROBINSON, SIMPSON, EDWARDS, PARKIN
    2. I have family ties to ROBINSON in Rotherham, SIMPSON in Parkgate, OXLEY in Wakefield and a bit further back to EDWARDS in Barnsley and PARKIN of Thorpe & Swinton. I would be especially interested if anyone might be able to provide me with the last name of the wife of AARON PARKIN and/or information about the parents of REGINALD ROBINSON. My great grandfather REGINALD ROBINSON married LILY EDWARDS in Rotherham in 1914. Reginald and his brother John were both born in the Rotherham Union Workhouse (but didn't live there) and were adopted by the MAYCOCK family of Kimberworth sometime between 1893 and 1901. Their mother was named ELIZABETH ROBINSON, father not sure (possibly JOHN). Lily's father was JOSEPH HENRY EDWARDS (b. 1860 Cornwall) and her mother was MYRA PARKIN (Burncross, Yorks). I believe that Myra's parents were Aaron and ALICE? Parkin but Alice had died between 1877 and 1881 and I have been unable to source her last name through resources available on the web. As seen on the 1881 census, Myra had three younger siblings: Arthur, Selina and Charles, all born SWINTON. If anybody has any ties to this family tree, write me a note!!!
