    3. Further to Pete's info, I remember there being a photographers on the corner of imperial buildings diagonally opposite Mason's jewellers and across from Ring o'bells cafe. But the last I remember, that particular shop became a carpet shop. 3. Hi Michael Swallownest is a village in the postal area of Sheffield (I believe) - although at some time in the past it may well have come under the Rotherham area. Swallownest lies to the east of Sheffield, within the arc of the M1 between junctions 31-33 - on a map you may find it between Aughton and Aston. If you go to www.multimap.com and type in 'Swallownest' (south yorkshire) I'm sure you will be able to locate it. 2. Carol Barber
    3. Hello My name is Carol Barber and I am a Co-ordinator for the FreeCensus Project for Yorkshire and Durham, some of you may already know of the project. It involves transcribing the 1891 Census from fiche, therefore access to a fiche reader is necessary, and uploaded to the FreeCensus Website for free for view access. At the moment we have 4 pieces uploaded for Yorkshire and in the very near future more will be added - the URL is http://freecen.rootsweb.com to see the overall project. The software necessary for the project can be downloaded from the website and location is no problem as the fiche will be posted to you by myself. We are looking for volunteers who would like to help with the transcriptions. If you would like further information about what is involved, please contact me at the above address. Regards Carol FreeCensus Co-ordinator for Durham and Yorkshire http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~westridingyorkshire

    3. Hi listers, My parents grew up around Rotherham. My father's family moved there en masse from Staffordshire in about 1898: names included ALLEN, BROOKES and FLAVELL. Dad was born at 42 Queen St in 1903. Branches of the family proliferated around the area and lived at Sheffield and Wath as well as Rotherham. Dad's lot ended up in South Kirkby, where he met my mother. She had been born in Pontefract in 1903 to James and Frances GAUNT. They moved to South Kirkby when James worked at Frickley Colliery. My dad served his time there as a fitter and turner, and I think they went to the same church, too, so that's how they met. I'm interested in hearing from anyone else researching these lines or laterals thereof.
