    1. [ROTH] Resubmitting Interests
    2. carrma
    3. Hi, My name is Malcolm Arnold Carr - I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand on 17 December 1945. After living in Sydney, Australia for 20 years, I have recently returned to live in Christchurch, New Zealand. My interests are CARR, CASSON, HORSFIELD, KAY, (PARK ?), SCOTT, SHAW, SIMPKIN, TAYLOR, TODD, WAINWRIGHT, WOOD & WHITBREAD I have been trying to trace my Great Grandfather, William CARR (son of James Carr), who worked as an engine fitter for the Yorkshire Engine Company. He married Emma KAY (born Grenoside or Shire Green? to George Kay & Ann CASSON) on 11th April 1868 at St Thomas's Church, Kimberworth, when he was 32. They had 3 children, Sarah Ellen, James (my Grandfather, born 3rd January 1871 at Jenkin Road, Brightside, educated at Brightside Boarding School) & William (lived for only 3 months). He died on the 17th May 1874 at Grimesthorpe, Sheffield, from pneumonia aged 38 years. The family was living at High St, Brightside Bierlow in the 1871 Census. His widow Emma remarried on February 1877 to George Samuel WAINWRIGHT - this family was living at 25 Adsett St, Brightside Bierlow in the 1881 Census (children: [Wainwright] Alfred 17, Joshua 15, George S. 14 & Emma J. 11; [Carr] Sarah E. 11 & James 10). Unfortunately, I have been unable to trace William Carr's birth - I have tried St. Catherine's House Index & the IGI, but couldn't find anything which made any sense His son, another James Carr, emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1899, returning to England briefly in 1904 to see a specialist & to marry Annie Sarah SHAW (born October 31 1874 at Windhill, Shipley). I have tried to set out the above information in a sort of summary format below if it makes any clearer, together with my ancester's & their siblings salient details: James CARR (my ggg grandfather) of Openshaw (Manchester) & Sheffield, died about 1880, m. ? SCOTT brought up by Lady SCOTT with Mark FIRTH later Mayor of Sheffield. William CARR Fanny CARR James CARR (my gg grandfather) Joseph CARR Sarah Ann CARR Alice CARR James CARR (my gg grandfather) m. 3. Hi Malcolm I don't think we have a connection as I'm looking for people a wee bit further back namely:- William CARR of Rotherham who had 5 children in Rotherham between 1732 & 1744 including my ancestor Ellin who married Thomas BANKS on 14th November 1765. The register doesn't give his wife's name - rather frustrating - and he wasn't married Rotherham. 3. Hi Chris, Just to let you know that I know of the Yeardley family, they live in a big old farm house just out side Wentworth that belonged to my g grandmas 1st husbands father. As far as I know there's plenty of Yeardley's in the area. Some of them are also connected to the Coopers. Have you got them on all the census records? 3. Chris Thanks for the info on Mary Yeardley. I have a Mary YEARDLEY marrying Joseph FROST (my GGGrandfather) 17 Aug 1836 at Wentworth, though this has been taken from the IGI records and I've not checked it elsewhere. I'm hoping to make some progress on this in the next few weeks and I'll let you know if I manage to sort anything out. Graham

    2. Graham, do you know if Joseph and Mary had any children, and if perhaps Joseph died shortly after they married, or they divorced? i am trying to trace a James Bloor my GGGrandfather born 1843 to Enoch Bloor and Mary Yeardley. i cannot find a birth record for him, so the possibility exists of an adoption by a later marriage to Mary. Do you know her profession according to the IGI record? Her father is listed as George Yeardley. Thanks Chris

    3. Hello All, I am researching KEDMAN from Street Farm, Wentworth from 1769 SORSBY Wentworth and Rotherham, Kimberworth and Attercliffe BIRAM Wentworth and Sheffield JARVIS Southwark and Sheffield. I am still looking for John SORSBY (b 1796 Wentworth) who was working at the Holmes Colliery in 1834. Prior to that he had been the licencee of the Crossed Daggers, Rotherham. His wife, Hannah, died in 1836 at Holmes. In 1841 the children, except for the youngest aged 4yrs, are living with other families. No sign of John. The youngest child, Charles is recorded in 1861 census. Where was he in the intervening years? I would love to find John SORSBY in 1841/51 or even record his death for the record. Regards, Jean in Saddleworth

    2. Graham, in my search for my Bloor ancestors, i came across Mary Yeardley, who married Enoch Bloor (my GGGrandfather) on Jan 28th 1839. Both lived in Wellgate which is central Rotherham. Her father is listed as George Yeardley, i can't make out if he's a farmer or a foreman. Mary is listed as full age and a servant. They were married at the Parrish church of Rotherham. Hope you can use some of this info. Chris.
