Oops sorry about that everyone! Sorry Helen, I was just saying that my grandfather was a glass blower at Beatson Clark. I wondered, if you had the time, if you could tell me a little about the place. Sadly my grandfather died when I was five and I know very little about him. Hi: I live in Wisconsin in the States. My gg-grandparents, John Didsbury and Harriet Boomer, were born in Rotherham in the early 1800s. Their three children, Mary Ann, John and Harriet, were born in Rotherham and lived at Spah House in Treeton. They left for Canada in 1840, but the rest of the family stayed in Rotherham and Treeton. I'm not a Yorkie either .... in fact I'm not really British but a first generation Australian (much to my late mothers disappointment! I am sure she would have returned to England if she could to have me!!). I thought at first just my Da was born in Rotherham (Robert John WATSON) but a little digging found my Gmother (Martha Elizabeth Olive FOSTER) born there too. I have just located his Mums marriage cert so it is being posted over soon so I will know where his Da was born as well. I think gfather was born in Yorkshire somewhere as well. Have found other rellies in Whitby (WILLISON) I live in Queensland, a stones throw from the beach with my DH, 2 sons, 2 daughters and an assortment of creatures! Sonja Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia. Growing branches on the tree of Watson, Willison & Foster (Yorkshire), Taggart (Just a twig!), Brooke (South Africa, India & Kent), Carter (Huntingdonshire), Smith (Cambridgeshire),Lacon (Shropshire) and Mason (Lancashire).
Hi all I live in Scunthorpe Lincolnshire, England and I am interested in the Wentworth area because my paternal grandfather, Algernon Smith, was born there, and his siblings too - also his father, Joseph Smith and his wife Emily Dobson (whose father, Henry Dobson, was born in Kimberworth, according to the census records. I have yet to find a record of the Marriage of Joseph to Emily. Her first child was born to her as a single woman, but he was known as Harry Dobson Smith and was on the 1881 census with the rest of the family. If anyone has any further information, I would be interested to hear from them. --1055349936144 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit It now been suggested that the place may be Westwoodside, Lincs, near Epworth, SW of Scunthorpe. The original reading of the difficult to read handwriting of West Would may be incorrect. Don't suppose you may have access to the 1841 for this tiny village? I'm looking for William TAYLOR aged about 21 and his wife Elizabeth. There firstborn may also be there i.e. Samuel Ashley TAYLOR, aged about 1. This family were not in the 1841 census for Brampton Bierlow, near Rotherham, where I expected them to be. When searching the LDS film for the 1841 census HO 107/1329, Brampton Bierlow Township, parish of Wath upon Dearn, I found some pages wwere black and unreadable. These were for the hamlets of Street and Hoober. The last readable clear page was Street, page 8 folio 39 ED 8 and the next readable page was page 11 folio 41 for Hoober. Any suggestions for finding a way to see the data contained on these pages? I'm looking for: William TAYLOR aged about 21 wife Elizabeth and son Samuel aged about 1 year old. George SALKELD, other SALKELDS and Sarah OTTLEY/UTLEY plus any others with these surnames in Street or Hoober on these black pages. Hello: I'm new to the list. Researching: George WHITEHEAD b.28 Apr 1874 Brimington, Derbys wife, Florence UNKNOWN son, Harold daughter, Hilda George was living in Rotherham in 1934. I cannot locate him on the 1901 census, and have yet to find his marriage. George was the son of Samuel WHITEHEAD b.1840 Bakewell, Derbys and Henrietta Edith SWATRIDGE b. 1843 Dorset. Would love to hear from anyone who's run across this family in their research. All of my other WHITEHEADs lived in Derbys and Notts. Regards Caroline Boston (nee Whitehead) Ontario, Canada
