    3. Hi Listers, I am hoping SKS can help me confirm or refute a long standing family story. Please bear with me as it is slightly convoluted. :-) Sir Edward BANKS was a well known engineer who from humble beginnings rose above his station to be part owner in a large engineering firm, JOLIFFE and BANKS which undertook major works including the building of the *new* London Bridge which was opened in 1831. My family oral history states that my Great Grandfather William BANKS was born in 1841 at the home of Sir Edward BANKS ( his Great Uncle?) in Sheerness. I have obtained Williams birth cert. and he was born in Sheerness.Family lore also states that Williams mother almost named him Delamark after Sir Edward's son. If you are still with me here is the North Yorks. bit. Edward BANKS was apparently born in Hutton Hang on 4th Jan 1770. What I am hoping to find out is whether Edward BANKS is in fact my Great Great Grand Uncle. :-) I am hoping, as Sir Edward was a knight, there may be a family tree already in existence which may confirm or refute this or, failing this I need to find Edwards records. I told you it was convoluted. Any help or advice gratefully received.Apologies if you have fallen asleep while reading this. Regards, Nev in Oz I use Archive Cd Books to help with my research http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/index.htm
