Having both NR Yorkshire and Hampshire relatives, I subscribe to both lists, and have recently had some great successes with the latter, finding whole new lines of relatives I didn't know about. Many of mine were christened or married at St. Mary's, Portsea, where Charles Dickens was also baptized - there's a plaque in the present church commemorating this fact, and a nice little museum housed at Dickens' birthplace in Portsmouth. The church where Dickens was baptized was rebuilt twice in the 19th century, but I have a color print reproduction of the old church from 1761. I was quite surprised, therefore, to hear of a Dickens connection to Malton. Presumably that was later in his life. Was this through marriage or career? I'd like to add my thanks to the Andy for his huge Malton Messenger project - just wish there was SKS who would do the same for the Whitby area! Though I did hear of one SAWDON in the MM BMD's some time ago, most of mine were from Whitby, notably William SAWDON, a watchmaker & jeweler, who had a shop in Bridge Street, and was quite a noted person in his day. I have an original photo print of him and his wife Eleanor WINSPEAR, which I later found must have been fairly widely distributed as it appears in a book of old photos of Whitby and its residents - this also included my great uncle Arthur SAWDON's furniture shop partially submerged in the Whitby flood of 1920. This is also a pretext to re-post my surname interests in the hope that some new people have joined the list since I last posted them. Regards and thanks to all who have previously helped me out with so much of my research which is hard to conduct at this distance! Martin Willcocks Salt Lake City, UT, USA.
