    3. Local papers had correspondents from local places which fed them the information for the births, marriages and deaths. Obviously for this edition the Middlesborough/Stokesley correspondent handed them the week's events. Sometimes the correspondent for Ripon is very active. It is easy to spot the weeks when the correspondent for the area is active. A few years ago from 1864, I noticed there were lots of entries from Whitby, but these have now dried up. Obviously the Whitby correspondent has ceased sending them. As to entries from further afield. Usually there is some sort of connection with the Malton area. Maybe the person used to live in the area or they have connections. I have to admit some entries are totally baffling as to why they appear. regards Andy Sefton -----Original Message----- From: David Drake [mailto:davidmdrake@btinternet.com] Sent: 04 May 2003 15:35 To: ENG-NORTH-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [N'Yorks] Malton Messenger BMD's 11th June 1864 Andrew, Many thanks again for your efforts in producing BMD's announcements from the Malton Messenger-much appreciated by many people all over the world I would imagine. I have a question that has perplexed me from some time and maybe you or another lister could provide an answer. The Malton Messenger mainly covers locals (and various places within a few miles) but have noticed that this is not always the case. I appreciate that perhaps dignitaries from further afield and folk who have moved to other parts of the country might get a mention. However on occasions a solitary edition of the Messenger might include a spate of entries from a single place not that close to Malton. For example the 11th June 1864 has 7 marriages and 2 deaths from Middlesbrough. Why would that be? Any ideas anybody? Thanks again on behalf of many, David Drake (researching in Malton-DRAKE, JEWITT, BELL, with peripheral interest in TAYLOR, MILESTONE, YOUNG, CLARKE, STOCKDALE, DODGSON, GIBSON) ==== ENG-NORTH-YORKS Mailing List ==== ~ SUBJECT LINES ~ Think about it!!
