About 35 years ago, there was a long public inquiry into possible sites for a third London airport. Foulness Island was one of the potential sites, so just imagine flying into the UK via Foulness Airport ! I remember it as a very flat, barren, muddy, island on the coast of Essex, separated from the mainland by muddy creeks. I've sailed in those creeks, and ended up in the mud. It lives up to it's name!
