    1. [N'Yorks] Re: Wedding cards
    2. Hi Pam, 1864 is a bit early for greeting cards, I should have thought. Is it possible that the cards were the opposite: small cards announcing the details of the wedding to friends and relatives and sent with a tiny sample of wedding cake, i.e. the wedding cards would have been rendered unnecessary by the announcement in the Malton Messenger. We have a number of tiny wedding cards sent to my mother-in-law, mainly in the 1930s and 1940s (some later), giving the details of bride's parents and address, bride and groom, and date of the wedding. They are a standard format (quite elaborate, decoratively embossed rectangular cards, about 2" x 1", in a small purpose-made envelope). Might the "no cards" announcement have been a notice of intention not to send these? However, I am open to correction! Best wishes, Roz
