Hello I am researching a Newsam family in and around Kikrbymoorside in the 19th C. I have found a marriage certificate which shows that the marriage, in Kirkbymoorside on Dec 17 1874, took place in the Toll Booth. Although it was conducted "according to the rites and ceremonies of the Established Church" the marriage did not take place in the Parish Church though I believe it is recorded in the church marriage Register. Does anyone know why a marriage in Kirkbymoorside might have been conducted away from the Parish Church and in the Toll Booth? Is the Toll Booth still standing? Margaret Southern
