    3. Hello folks.. forgive me if this is a silly question, but what is the benefit of looking at the reels as opposed to familysearch.org. I assume there is more information on the reels than there is on the website.. but what exactly? Thanks, Virginia Searching for Simon WARD in North Yorkshire b. 1755. > > Will do lookups from the following LDS films that I have on 4 week loan. > > > >==== ENG-NORTH-YORKS Mailing List ==== >This List is dedicated to the North Riding, Yorkshire, England! 3. Hi Virginia, Looking at the LDS films you would be looking at the original parish register entry written at the time that the event took place, and not at an indexed item from that register or an LDS patron submission. Whatever entries you find on the familysearch website should "always" be checked against the original of the entry and not taken as being correct in every detail. Every time an original register etc is indexed or transcribed it is open to errors being made and so the only way to be sure that the details you have found in an index is to check it against the original source. You should also treat patron submissions with a lot of caution as these do not always bear out against the original register. They are often entries created by the members of the LDS church for the churches own ordinances and bear no relation to actual events. You will also often find that the film of the original has more detail than that given in any index you might have used so it is doubly worth ordering the LDS films of the parish registers concerned. Who knows you may also find other entries on the film that were not in the index? Regards Jenny DeAngelis.
