Hello List, I am researching Petch in the North and West Riding. My 2xgt Uncle George is listed as living at 1, Grange Cottages on the 1901 Census the Parish is Brafferton, and the Borough is Thirsk and Malton. Immediately above his entry is an entry for Pilmoor Grange. I would like to know if the grange and what would appear to be tied cottages then, still exist. I would be very grateful for any help. Thanks for your time. Doreen Petch
Doreen: I have the text of a letter written from Upper Canada (Ontario) , dated September 30th, 1832, by John Dixon mentioning a Jonathan Petch, shoe-maker who went from Whitby and lives near him. Is this a relative ? Hello Doreen I am sorry I can't be much help with your quest but... The Grange and Grange Cottages still exist on the 'UK Info CD' so I assume they are still there physically also. This area is the same area that I am interested in. My Father was born in Pilmoor at No 4 Railway Cottages and lived later at (I think) Brickfield Cottages, which have since been pulled down. My Grandmother ran the Village shop from there, and I had many very happy holidays there. I can give you more up-todate information from the CD if you require.
