Andrew, You're right when you say the HUGILL name is common in Whorlton. They have a long history in the village - and I've only scratched it's surface as yet. It is possible that we have a connection as I explain below. I have a Miriam HUGILL who was christened on 3 Dec 1746. Unfortunately she died within days and was buried on 21 Dec 1746. Her mother was Miriam RIPLEY who had married Jonathon HUGILL on 17 Aug 1732. Unfortunately, she was buried on 7 Nov 1746 - presumably from complications arising from the birth of her daughter, Miriam. Now to the part that might be the connection: Jonathon and Miriam had several previous children, one of whom was Jonathon christened 27 Aug 1742. Is it possible that this Jonathon wanted to perpetuate the memory of his little sister and his mother by naming one of his children Miriam? Could this Jonathon be your John, the father of your Miriam If you are able to accept a Word document as an attachment I'll send you a Modified Register report for the Hugill's as I have them in my family tree. regards, Peter Appleton Researching the following surnames: Yorkshire (North Riding): APPLETON, BOWERS, COCKERILL, EVANS, FAWCETT, LEGG(E) Norfolk: BOWERS, CARVER, MULLENGER, WOODS Westmorland: MASON Lincolnshire: HOWSAM My Family Tree website: http:/www.tribalpages.com/tribes/pappleton3 -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Ross [mailto:an.ross@ntlworld.com] Sent: 20 October 2003 10:24 To: ENG-NORTH-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYorks] Eleanor HUGILL in Hutton Rudby Hi Peter, I'm also interested in the Hugill family around Whorlton. It seems a fairly common name around the area. I've got a Miriam Hugill baptised 1764 at Whorlton and married 1791 in Stokesley to Ralph Selby. I believe Miriam's parents were John Hugill and Ann Belt. Does this connect with you at all Peter?
