Ailsa The original message you posted referred to 1578, but it also quoted that it was in "the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second King of England etc". Charles the second was born in 1630, and reigned from 1660 to 1685. So the date on your document surely ought to be 1678 not 1578 ? Queen Elizabeth the First was the monarch in 1578.
