I have recently added a transcript of the will of Margaret PRESSICK, spinster, of Whitby (proved 1841) to my site http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dhking/probate/prissick/WillMargaretPressick1841.htm This is an amazing example of the value of the wills of those who die childless, and who for that reason often list many more family members than parents, who of course often only list their own children. I believe Margaret to have been the daughter of Samuel Pressick & Elizabeth Jackson, baptised in 1761, making her a grand old age when she died. I wonder if anyone tracing Whitby families in the late 18th early 19 centuries can help to place the following relatives, many of whom must have been fairly distant. I assume the term 'cousin' is rather more extended than the general meaning today of first cousin, as I cannot place any of the cousins as known first cousins, and wonder if anyone can offer a contemporary definition for the term 'relation'? The following are listed as cousins (note all suggested baptism/marriages are at Whitby): Margaret Lacy Elizabeth Lacy Jonathan Lacy (who had six daughters) Rosina Lacy Catherine Lacy, wife of John Adamson William Lacy Thomas Lacy Margaret Chadwick Mary Wilkinson (nee Lacy, dec'd, Did she marry Henry Wilkinson 1794 ?) Edward Cayley (is he the EC baptised 1782, s. of Edward Cayley & Mary Brown?) John Chapman Esther Merchant (nee Harrison) Rev Thomas Alexander Brown Charles Brown George Brown Susan MacDowell Jessy Fenton (dec'd) Margaret Gossip The following are relations: Sarah Wilkinson widow of George Wilkinson (is she the Sarah Brown who married GW 1802) Elizabeth Spencer, Son Thomas Pressick & daughter Rebecca Dodd (I believe that she may be the Elizabeth Pressick who had an illegitimate son Thomas baptised in 1794, married William Spencer 1796, whose daughter Rebecca baptised 1798 - interstingly, a likely candidate would be Margaret Pressick's younger sister, but would she really only call her a relation?) These others are also mentioned, but with no reference to relationship to MP: John Eskdale (there may be a link to the Lacys via the marriage of Thomas Lacy and Euphemia Eskdale?) Joseph Anderson (& late wife Esther Harrison) John Harrison Esther Knaggs (sister to above John Harrison) Esther Groves w. of Robert Groves ( is she nee Eskdale, married 1814?) Mary Winn w. of Mark Winn (is she Mary Hall, married 1819?) Any thoughts much appreciated, Dave
