Suspect that alsiboy@ntlworld.com is having a puerile chuckle. Suspect it is all too easy for someone to subscribe to a list then cause disruption in this way. B wishes John

    3. It looks to me as though "alsiboy" is using Mailwasher or a similar anti-spam program. He has probably blacklisted ENG-NORTH-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com either accidentally or deliberately. Mailwasher will then return a "Returned mail : User unknown" message to a sender. This looks like it is a genuine "user unknown" message from the ISP. The idea is that the recipient then removes your address from their list. I use Mailwasher, and it cuts down the amount of spam that I get, so it is useful in that way. With some sources of spam, it is definitely a bad idea to send a message saying "please remove me from your list" or even to follow up their "unsubscribe" options, as this shows them that they have found a genuine address and that you will respond to them. However it is a pain if you end up blocking "friendly" addresses. If it continues, we ought to ask the list administrator to remove him from the list.
