Janice-- we may just have a connection with Harrison. My G.Aunt Elizabeth Shaw married a Francis William Harrison at Whitby in 1875. His father was Francis Harrison who was born in Fylingdales 1822/3. I haven't been able to go further with this yet. Francis William died in1888 at Whitby , and Elizabeth moved to Middlesbro with her children between 1891 and 1901. With ref to Wood, My g.grandmother Elizabeth Shaw, age 48, after being widowed married a George Wood in 1858 at Whitby. On their marriage cert his age is given as 50, his occupation as Coachman, but his father and occupation are struck through. There is a George Wood in the 1851 census for Whitby at the same address as given on the marriage cert. Here he appears to be aged 45 born at Slingsby, and his occupation seems to be Post Boy. George and Elizabeth do not appear in the 1861 Whitby census and George died at Whitby in 1865 . As Slingsby is close to Kirbymoorside I wonder if George was one who got away from farming? Peter Shaw
