    3. Mystery solved! Using your technique of searching CRA* I managed to find them on the 1901 census as CRAVE. Fantastic! Thanks very much to those who replied, who only knows how long I would've been here for trying to figure out that one on my own, I'm already feeling slightly cross-eyed from staring at it for too long.
