A friend's ancestor, William PREST gave his birth place as Red Hill, Yorkshire in the 1851 census for Moulton. William's daughter in law said that she was born in Redmire. We can't find any reference to either place in North Yorkshire. There is a Red Hill in the West Riding but it doesn't seem to be the one we are seeking. Please could anyone tell me if they have heard of either of these places? Many thanks, Maureen
GENUKI is a great site for finding Yorkshire Parishes and Towns. You will find details of Redmire of Wensley Parish, North Riding on the page:- http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Wensley/index.html Amongst other things, a simple Google search also identifies the following site which may be of interest:- http://www.redmire.net/ Paul Kirby Canberra Australia Maureen wrote: > A friend's ancestor, William PREST gave his birth place as Red Hill, > Yorkshire in the 1851 census for Moulton. Hi Maureen, I, too, have PREST in my ancestry. Ann PREST married David HUGILL on 03 Dec 1788 at Holy Cross church, Whorlton (according to the Parish Register). Between 1789 and 1811 they had eleven children. Ann died on 26 Mar 1844 (according to a photocopy of the end-paper from a family Bible). Their daughter, Jane (born 1797) married Thomas APPLETON on 31 Dec 1822 becoming my GGGreat-grandmother. If there is any connection I'd be delighted for any details. regards, Peter Appleton My Family Tree website: http:/www.tribalpages.com/tribes/pappleton3 -----Original Message----- From: Maureen [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 09 April 2006 22:23 To: [email protected] Subject: [NYorks] PREST, Red Hill A friend's ancestor, William PREST gave his birth place as Red Hill, Yorkshire in the 1851 census for Moulton.
