Could a Lister who has researched for a 18th to 19th century Excise Officer Kindly inform me if a newly appointed Officer is usually appointed to a Ride within the County of his usual residence. I have the list of rides allotted to my Exciseman up to the date of his death but not the date and place of his birth. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Ray in New Zealand.
