Following research I am doing on the Plews Brewery of Bedale Aiskew and Leeming Bar I am trying to find out what the above term means. It relates to a property that is owned by one Henry Plews as listed in the Inhabitants of Bedale 1839 and described as a maltkiln. He rents the adjacent property from the local gentry, Miss Pierce which is described as a Brewery, House and Yard etc. It was still being occupied by the family some 40 years later and still stands today as a fine Georgian house. Look forward to hearing from anyone.
