Hi, One of my ancesters WILLIAM HOLMES died 18 Nov 1837 at Swinicle Rigg nr Kirkby Moorside. He was a coal miner. I cannot find it on a map or on the internet. Has anybody heard of it? Hi Mary, I Googled on "Swinacle" & came up with this website, http://www.planning-inspectorate.gov.uk/access/appeals/northeast/2263_decision.htm which is something to do with Planning Permission at:- Appeal site: Land at Swinacle Ridge south east of Mitchell Hag Wath, north east of Fadmoor, Kirkbymoorside, N Yorks. which seems to be the area you were enquiring about.
