I have just completed a review of the links in our FEATHERSTONE families of the East Riding who moved North The following surnames have turned up;- James FEATHERSTONE married Mary Ann GREGG in Thirsk 1856. She was b 1825 Topcliffe By Thirsk, Father: CHRISTOPHER GREGG Mother: ANN James was born in West Ella/Swanland East Riding in 1832 son of John and Hannah [ ANDREW - my family line ] He was a Gardener at Hovingham in 1861, prob at the Worsley's of Hovingham Hall. Was Mary Ann a servant there ? in 1871 he was at Swinto, Masham, prob working for the Danby family estate. in 1881 - 91 he was farming 6 acres at Galphay, Azerley, maybe for the Dawsons eatate. 1901 Laverton as Farmer Gardener Son John Thomas b 1863 Hovingham married Emily CLAXTON 1897 in York, n 1861 daugther of George [ b Hornby 1830 ] Son Alfred FEATHERSTONE b Swinton 1864 married Frances MAXWELL in 1882 in Ripon She was b abt 1852 Sawley, d of Robert & Ann MAXWELL of Grantley. Alfred appears to have met Frances when they both were at Laverton House. He moved to Grantley Bank where in 1901 he was a Groom/Gardener - ? Grantley Hall. Another younger son of John and Hannah was Alfred FEATHERSTONE b West Ella.Swanland 1846 he married Annie HORNBY of William HORNBY b 1832 Old Byland and Ruth SIMPSON From 1881-1901 at Ingleby Arncliffe a Gardener. Son Fred b 1874 married Annie ? abt 1873 Whorlton on Tees, Durham. 1901 Asst Gardener at Preston Ave Woodside Preston on Tees Durham They had a daughter Hilda and son Jack. Son Charles b 1876 was a Farmer at Baulk Bridge Farm Ingleby Arncliffe in 1901 with his siter Laura I would welcome any connections/information from these Surnames from the North Riding.
