    1. Yorkshire regiments

    3. My ggggrandfather, John Ottey served with the 65th Regiment of Foot and was then Quarter master with 60th Regiment of Kings Rifles. The births would be in the early 1800's as I have found what is probably his marriage in 1805. I understand that the 65th is/was based in North Yorkshire. I am trying to find the births of his children and have found some that could be born in Lythe. Could this regiment have been based in or near Lythe. If I am asking on the wrong list perhaps someone could direct me to the appropriate one. Many thanks, Bryan

    3. Hi Bryan, I have several different military connections in my family tree: ranging from a Chelsea Pensioner of the 44th Foot from the Napoleonic era, via Yorkshire Regiment in the Boer War and the Great War, to Royal Army Service Corps and Royal Air Force in WWII. The following web site is a useful one to start getting some background to any British Army regiment: http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/lists/bargts.htm Once you have a feel for what the regiment was doing at a point in time - and where it was doing it - try Googling with various keywords. There is a surprising amount of information available online on some quite obscure aspects of military matters. There are also specialist military Mailing Lists on Rootsweb covering some of the major wars (WWII, WW1, Boer War, Napoleonic War, etc.) Feel free to come back with more questions if you want to. regards, Peter Appleton My Family Tree website: http:/www.tribalpages.com/tribes/pappleton3 -----Original Message----- From: Bryan & Jenny [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 30 March 2006 11:39 To: [email protected] Subject: [NYorks] Yorkshire regiments My ggggrandfather, John Ottey served with the 65th Regiment of Foot and was then Quarter master with 60th Regiment of Kings Rifles.
