Hello everyone, I'm trying to trace a death certificate in order to obtain army personnel records for my grandfather-in-law, William Aidan GRIFFITHS. He was born 1906 in Middlesbrough and married Eleanor Burrows in 1926, while in the army, in Aldershot, Hants. They changed their names slightly and both said they were 21, when they were 19 and 20. When his wife died in 1953 (she was living in Redcar at the time), her death certificate stated "Formerly the wife of William Aidan Griffiths, Rehabilitation Officer". I believe they had been separated for a while. I have searched death records from 1952 to 2006, for Griffiths (William or Aidan or Dan or Bill), for all over the country (even though I believe he stayed around Middlesbrough), looking for someone with a matching age (to a couple of years) and not come up with any convincing matches (I checked for these people's births to eliminate them). Does anyone have any idea how I can find him? I've spent over a year on this and I had hoped the army had a 100 year rule (i.e. they would send out the information without a death certificate if it was more than 100 years after his birth). I need the army information to track down where he might have died (catch 22 situation). Any help gratefully received Sue Tomkins
