Good morning all I'm trying to identify the parents of George Sayers (born c 1808 Liverpool, Lancs). He is mentioned in the 1861 census return but I havnt found him anywhere else. This may be because George Sayers was a professional soldier and is likely to have served in the Army from about 1821 to 1846. (the 1861 census described his as an army pensioner). On leaving the army George is thought to have married and had a son John in 1847 in York. Certainly he was living with what was described as his wife Ann, and young son in Preston, Sussex in 1861. If Ann, 20 years younger than George according to that census, was the mother of his son John and they were married before Johns birth in 1848 then the wedding must have taken place sometime between 1846 - 1848 inc. and the only one that can be identified is that of a George Sayer to Ann Ball in district Devizes, Wiltshire in qtr June 1847 There was an Ann Ball of the correct age born in Liverpool (in 1831), but of course this was a common name and there were many others born elsewhere. Would anyone have access to the Liverpool PRs for around 1808? Also would anyone have access to military records - George Sayers may have been in a cavalry regiment given that his son subsequently joined the 5th Dragoon Guards in Leeds himself and served as a professional soldier. Fingers crossed Laurel Sayer
