    3. Hello, I am hoping that this is the correct list. I have been looking for GEORGE HIELD of Scarborough on the 1841 census he was a farmer but i am not sure which area is defined as Scarborough ! I haven't had any success with my search so i thought i would ask the more expearienced on this list. My HIELD's were in Chapel Haddlesy, West Yorkshire in 1841 but before that they were associated with Escrick, Willberfloss and Weldrake, I'm not sure which part of Yorkshire these parishes come under. EDWARD HIELD and MARY CORDUEX were married in Boswell Church on 19 Sep 1819 but i have been unable to find where this was. In 1845 MARY Hield and her children emigrated to America a few weeks after her husband EDWARD HIELD died and settled in Winsconsin. I have been sent a family tree which includes detailes of the journey. The family had strong connections to the methodist church, included is reference to a letter from Wesley (the methodist minister) who was a friend of the Cordeux family. MARY HIELD must have had "guts" ! ---- from the info i have received, EDWARD died of gastroenteritis but while he lay on his death bed he begged his wife to follow their plans to go to the new world! --she took with her seven children aged between 21 and 7 years old. I also have the transcript of a letter which was sent in the year 1846 to the HIELD family in America from GEORGE HIELD (not the one from Scarborough) who was EDWARD's brother, he was a farmer living at Chapel Haddlesy in West Yorkshire. He had previously farmed in 1827 with his brother Edward at Escrick where they were both born, sons of RICHARD HIELD. In the letter he mentions the GEORGE HIELD of Scarborough who i am interested in finding on the 1841 census, I would like to see where he was living and who with, I don't know his age but I'm trying to work out if he was a relative of my HIELD family, according to the letter they were at least good friends. I have searched the 1841 census without success. I'm not familiar with that area and wondered if someone on this list could let me know which villages i should be look at that are in the Scarborough area. This is an excerpt of the letter sent to his sister-in-law MARY HIELD ------------------ ------------------------------------------------- "Chapel Hadellesy Jan 26, 1866 Dear Sis and Children I duly rerceived your letter and newspaper dated Oct 27th in about 5 weeks, but had seen that you had sent to Mr Wilkerson a while before and am glad to here of your health. You have by this time felt what it is to be a stranger in a strange land but a conviction in your own mind you are in the way of Providence is a consolation. I much doubt Bro Blyth being well but I fear from an account i heard from mrs. ? he is not alive you may have heard from the family he has bought a farm near Roschester at a high price. You be much hurt to hear George Hield of Scarborough took a fever I think with much exertion when the railway was opened through excess of business his mother came to wait upon him was frequently delirious and in a few weeks died. Thomas went to see him and fret much. He died in harvest. " --------------------------------------------------------------------- GEORGE HIELD of Scarborough died in 1845 , there is a GEORGE HIELD bap Cayton by Scarborough in 1833 I would be gratefull for any info that members of the list could give me.
