I hope someone can help me I am trying to find Anns birth certificate to find the surname of her mother.On the wedding certificate she is 21 spinster married from James St at St Peters church.Her father is Thomas Thompson a farm lab.On the 91 census Annie say she was born in Ripon.This is all the info I have.I would be grateful for any help as I seem to have hit a brick wall as there are so many Thompsons arround the area.Many thanks from Wendy Melbourne Aus

I've just looked at Ripon bapts ( Holy Trinity and St Wilfred) for that period (1860-1868) and there are no children of a Thomas . Trouble is once people moved to the city they often gave the nearest town rather than the actual village of birth, 21 could just be the way they said of full age as well whereas she might be a bit older or does the census bear that out? Your Ann was born in Copt Hewick, just outside Ripon to Thomas and Hannah Thompson. Hannah was born Hannah Bransby daughter of James and Elizabeth of Catton near Topcliffe in 1836. Hi there I have an interest in Thomas Thompson in the Northallerton area (i think there were two people of that name in the same family), including Leake/Borrowby area.
